Missing records/St Peters Church MonkWearmouth

Due to the fire in the vestry of St Peters Church in the 1700's some records no longer exist.
Any ideas on how I can bridge the gap between the William Wilson dob1783 and his parents and then hopefully be able to continue?
William was a Master Sail Maker who lived in Low Street Sunderland, and his parents are listed only as John and Mary.
There was several children, Thomas 1773, Jane 1774, John 1776, and it was suggested that there were 3 families of Wilson living in MonkWearmouth at that time but I'm unsure how to proceed. Any help would be welcome.

The early registers for this parish were destroyed by fire in April 1790 and copy registers were compiled so far as was possible. These were made by advertising in the Newcastle newspapers "for every person concerned to fetch Copies of such Private Registers as they had in their Possession to the Vestry where attendance was given by the Church Wardens and several of the Principal Inhabitants of the said Parish every Tuesday". Those copy registers do not form a complete record, therefore, for the periods which they cover. There are indexes to the copy registers for baptisms and marriages and also an index to marriages for the years 1785 - 1900. Durham Record Office

Thank you so much for the prompt response, now all I need is someone to do a 'look up' for me as I live in the South West and am unable to travel North.
Another question, is it at all possible to trace the indentures of William who must have been apprentices to a Master Sail Maker?
And finally can any tell me where Bull Lane is in relation to Low Street! I have the wonderful book of Rains Eye map which is very informative in showing the old streets of Sunderland. It's interesting to note many of the old street names remain.

You can also go to http://gis.durham.gov.uk/website/interMAP/viewer.htm and enter the post code SR12BL in search which will centre the map on Conroys News which is at 144 High Street East. Bulll lane is still there between 143 & 144.

Glebe Cleft Villas, seems it needs to be in the better 'end' of town.

Glebe Cleft Villas was on the North Side of Chester Road between East Cleft Road and West Cleft Road. The site is now occupied by "The Precinct" of the University of Sunderland. If you go to http://gis.durham.gov.uk/website/interMAP/viewer.htm and enter the post code SR27PR this is the Royalty PH (originally  the Glebe Hotel which was at Number 1 Glebe Cleft Villas).
