Date and maybe some colour please?
« on: Sunday 08 March 09 20:50 GMT (UK) »
Hello Roots Restorers
Sorry no time no see - but finally I got my Dad to take an interest in the ancestry, so I am now inundated with information and 2 boxes full of family pictures ;D

Now, this is one found with Granddads possessions, that I suspect to be his parents - but need a date to confirm this please.  I spent days restoring it, for my daughter to announce it would look better in colour ::) which of course I have not learnt as yet.  So, if anyone can spare a mo to add colour that would be great, no idea on their colouring, only that if they are my family they should be blue eyed :)

If its who I think it is, they married in 1891 - could this be them?

Well the sleeving on her bodice tells me that this image was taken between the years of 1893 and 1897 whilst her hair tells me that it would have been before 1896/7 as she still has the curly haired fringe look which was consistant with the first half of the 1890's and not the loose pompadour style that came into fashion from 1896/7.

Hello Bluehound
Agree with OR around 1895-7,this is when these Gigot sleeves reached these proportions.
If you have the original you may want to put it up as most restorers like to work from this.

Thank you, thats great - so looks like it is who I think then, and not the generation before that  - hurray! what a brilliant find this is then.

The original was awful, the items were found last week in the shed, were they have been for 30 years, so starting to decay and go damp - I am now lucky enough to have 2 boxes of these to restore ;D

Terry, thank you so much for that its lovely :-*
