Emigrated to NSW 1887 - MILLER, E. C. Snr.
« on: Sunday 08 March 09 13:44 GMT (UK) »
Edward Colebrooke Miller, b. 1831 Hampshire and possibly his son Edward Colebrooke Miller, b. 1861 Buckinghamshire emigrated to NSW after the death of his wife Julia Augusta (nee Pyne) sometime in 1887.  Would like to know who was travelling with him and the date and ship, etc.  He was living in Southampton in 1881 census and he died in Sydney, NSW 8 Oct 1901.  Has anybody got access to the passenger lists for that period.  Thanks a lot.

There are indexes of passengers for this period on the NSW State Records Site at
http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/state-archives/indexes-online/indexes-online#immigration-and-shipping

and also
http://mariners.records.nsw.gov.au/

Good luck
Jean

Thanks very much Jean for that.  Unfortunately only about 1/4 of the lists for 1887 have been transcribed, and the Millers were not to be found.  I will have to be patient and go back to it at a later date when it is more complete.

Regards. Ros.

Ros

Do you know for sure that it was 1887 they emigrated?   And do you know for sure that Edward C Miller Jnr came here?

Jean

P.S. Are you in Australia?

Hi Jean,

I'm sorry I've only just got your message.  I live in England.   I have now found the record.  E. C. Miller Senior travelled from London on the Vessel "Panmure" with his son, E. C. Miller, arriving in Sydney 10 Aug. 1887.

Thanks for your interest. Ros.

Not sure if you are interested, but there is a picture of the "Panmure" on the PictureAustralia site.

Thanks for that, Jean.  I've made a copy of it for my family tree programme. :)
