Hi can any one help with this request I've received from a friend?
"Joseph Dore Beal born 1839 Oxfordshire, christened 25 August 1839 Cogges, Witney, Oxfordshire. I have all his marriage and death details etc so don't need those.
What I'm after is his parentage...
Mother: Charlotte Beal (she was christened 24th May 1812 at St Mary's Church, Cogges, Witney). She shows as his mother on the christening record. She goes on to marry a George Gardner in 1845. He has two sons and in 1851 Joseph Beal is shown living with them. In 1841, as a 2 year old, he is shown living with grandmother Jane and Charlotte 26.
Father: Another site has his father as Joseph Dore Beal, but no mother. Same site also has George Gardner as his father So there is an anomaly here.
Charlottes parents were Thomas Beal born 1778 and Jane Day (already had her). they had:
John 20.2.1803, died 1803;
Jane 7.12.1806
James 1807 - have his later details
George 16.4.1809, died 1809
and, of course, Charlotte
I had 'assumed' Joseph Dore Beal was the father from the info to hand and also that he was the son of Jane (and Thomas) and therefore may have been Janes brother!!!!
All the above dates are the christening dates and they were all born in Cogges.
Now, either the site that has Joseph Dore Beal as his father has used supposition (which is highly likely) or I have to call it quits and change the tree to show only Charlotte Beal as his mother.
Please see what you can do with Rootschat - if you understand a tenth of what I've said above that is!"
Any ideas of where she can go from here? I think the father could have been a Dore and there is a Dore family with two sons in their twenties and a father called Joseph in Oxfordshire in the 1841 census, but I've no idea how you can prove/disprove a connection.
Thanks
Jan
