Missing Helmsley marriage on BMD not on Yorks BMD

I'm desperate to order my Great Great Grandparents marriage certificate, it has a GRO ref but is totally missing from Yorks BMD, all the other records from around this period in Helmsley appear to be on here and seem to be available to buy at Harrogate, if I walked into the Bilton Office armed only with a GRO ref would they be able to find the certificate and allow me to purchase a copy

Marriages Sep 1867 Qtr Dist Helmsley, Vol 9d, Page 555 Olivia Wurswick and John Body.

I'm hoping you guys aren't going to say it's under North Allerton, I've tried their website several times and sent 2 e mails with no reply, Bilton/Harrogate is just down the road so for me this would be ideal but don't want to go in and look a fool if I cannot buy it there

I believe that if you walk into the Harrogate office, they will give you a form to fill in and will then post the certificate to you.

Why don't you just order it from the GRO - given that you have the reference details, it will only cost you the normal £7 and will be just as quick.

Thanks for your reply.  I did wonder if you could collect your certificates there and then at Harrogate when you fill a form in at the office, I didn't realise they would still have to be posted out even if you go in person rather than making a postal enquiry, I prefer to  pay in cash rather than over the internet where possible but as you say it's probably going to take the same amount of time either way GRO or Harrogate.

I went into the Harrogate office quite recently to do exactly what you were wanting to do and was told that it would take a week or so to send. I opted to go through GRO which has always been quick and efficient ( except when there is a series of Who Do You Think You Are on television when the entire world takes up ancestor hunting).

I understand your reservations on internet payment but GRO uses a secure payment system and so far ( fingers crossed) I haven't had a problem with it.

Many thanks for the info, I know what you mean about surges of interest that last a few weeks, a bit like the mad rush for the 1911 census at the moment.  Olivia is the only recent ancestor who totally stumps me, there are plenty of Worswicks around, just very few Wurswick's and no record of an Olivia being born, so I've a feeling that when I get the certificate that it will turn out to be mis spelling on the BMD record, and her name is likely Worswick, I'll get it onto it this week anyway see what I can find, at least I know now not to go rushing off to Bilton expecting to come home with certificates in hand.

I think it also depends on how busy they are at the time.  On one day I went to both Stockton and Middlesbrough registry offices.  Stockton were really busy, they asked me to fill in the form and they'd post it out, Middlesbrough were really quiet and did them for me there and then.

Maybe the person on the desk in Harrogate was just not in the mood when I went! They weren't busy and she told me that they used to do it there but not any more.

Perhaps a phone call to check would be a good idea?

Scruffypup, we're the coordinators for putting marriages on yorksbmd for Ryedale. Your marriage is not in the Helmsley parish church. Might it be in a neighbouring parish but still Helmsley area? We're still doing Ryedale by alphabet and have reached 'R' so maybe it's not done yet.
It's no good going to Harrogate with a GRO ref. They have their own referencing system.

I managed to buy the wedding certificiate, John and Olivia were married at the Bethel Chapel, never heard of it before but apparently it is in the Helmsley/Kirkbymoorside district.
