Baptismal lookups: Peterborough & Piddington please
« on: Saturday 07 March 09 08:33 GMT (UK) »
Hello there.  I would very much appreciate anyone who could help me find these three entries in the baptismal records as each of them would allow me to take the family tree back another generation (assuming the entries contained names of parents).

The tree individuals I am trying to trace back (all great-great-great-grandparents of mine!) are:

1. Westfield George Clarke, born c1800, believed to be Piddington
2. Sarah Hutchins, born c1804, in Piddington/Hackleton
3. John Sarjeant/Searjeant/Sargent, born Dec 1801, Peterborough

Any help that anyone could offer on any individual would be greatfully received.

Thanks a million,

Mark.

Hi Mark

Welcome to Rootschat.  :)

Although there were Clarkes in Piddington and Hackleton I can not
see one named Westfield being baptised there.

I can see the 2nd entry so will send in a P.M.

Can not help with 3rd so hopefully someone will direct you to that one.

A big thanks to Sandy for his help.

Can anyone help with the baptism of John Serjeant/Sarjeant/Sargent?  This was in the last quarter of 1801 or else in 1802.  While the information I have says he was born in Peterborough, that is based on 20-year-old research by a family member and, reflecting on it, this may not be the case at all - perhaps he was baptised in one of the surrounding parishes that nowadays would be called Peterborough.  Perhaps a general search of Northamptonshire baptisms might find him??

Any help appreciated, thanks,

Mark.

You said you were looking for details of a Sarah Hutchins born Piddington Northants in 1804. My great great grandfather was a Benjamin Hutchins born in Hackleton, a stone's throw from Piddington, in 1806. They could have been brother and sister. Benjamin married a Susannah Tate b 1808 in Piddington and they had 9 children that I know of. George my great grandfather was the youngest and was born in 1850. He worked in the shoe making industry and moved to Leicester to get work. He married there and my grandfather and his 4 sisters were born in Leicester. Does this help you much?

Hello - well we are, in fact, related!  Sarah Hutchins was Benjamin's older sister.  I believe they both had one more older sister: Hannah.  I have discovered that their parents were Solomon Hutchings (c1776-1847) and Mary Liquorish (?-1809).  Solomon and Mary were married on 17 Nov 1801 in Little Bowden.

Send me a private message if you would like to compare notes.

Best wishes,
Mark.
