Thanks to the pilot site showing Civil BMD registrations I have been able to find a death record for my great grandmother and have sent for the certificate. Unfortunately I have had no luck finding out what happened to her husband. He doesn't appear on the 1901 Ireland census, and is described as deceased on a daughter's marriage certificate in Scotland 1905.
His name is Michael McEniff. I do not know his DOB, but as his children were born during the 1870s and 80s I assume it would be 1850s or possibly earlier.
His youngest child was born about 1885/6 so I assume his death would have been between 1885-1901 On the 1901 census his widow, daughters and remaining son are living at Gortnana (Scotshouse?) Co Monaghan so I believe this would have been his residence at the time of death.
I am also looking for the death of his son, also Michael. He is supposed to have died when his father was renovating the family home, possibly around 1883, but this date may not be accurate. As he was named after his father It's possible that he was the eldest son and therefore born during the 1870s.
I have searched the BMD entries for these two Michaels, but can't see dates/ages that seem to fit. I have tried different spellings of the name, but I am totally stuck and would be grateful for some help PLEASE! I'm hoping a new pair of eyes can find them for me.
The registration district for the family seems to be Clones Co Monaghan
Thank you
Angela
