Hi again, thanks for the replies. Samuel Turp was born in Pentlow in 1809 or 1811 and Amelia was born in Little Waltham in 1821 or thereabouts. I don't have much more information about this family. This is the family line of my great aunt by marriage Edith Ellen Turp who married George Smith which is something I have discovered on the 1911 census. After spending so much time researching the Smith line I though a name like Turp would be easy but it's not!! Any help would be very much appreciated.

It must be 1881
I cannot find them on any previous censuses at all.
1881 is not that clear - is it really Turp?
Rg11 1765 90 20
Little Waltham
Samuel Turp? 70 Ag Lab bn Pentlow
Amelia 60 bn L Waltham
We really need to work back gradually and find them in earlier censuses, in order to establish when they might have married, if there were children etc.
Then we might get some pointers to help find her maiden name. (birth cert of child, marriage cert, etc)
