LINDORES at Ladykirk, Bewickshire
« on: Tuesday 15 February 05 14:54 GMT (UK) »
I have Margaret LINDORES aged about 55yrs when she was present at her mother Margaret's death in 1863 at Ladykirk.

This is a new parish for my LINDORES research, so any reference to the surname in Ladykirk in 1861 or before would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Hi

Many thanks for the information.  I've no connection yet to Ledgerwood or Swinton, but I'll keep those on file in case I need them in the future.

LINDORES is quite an unusual name so I collect anything and everything connected to the name.

Just noticed your interest in REDPATH - have you any in Chirnside ?

Thanks again.

Thanks for that.

My Margaret REDPATH married John LINDORES in Chirnside 1808 and I have her parents and siblings.

I've not traced any REDPATH's forward yet, so don't know where they scattered to !

Hello I have only just registered on this site and noticed your interest in Lindores.
I have a Lindores family in my tree. Isobella Lindores (b circa 1842 d 1876). Parents: John Lindores (nothing further known though still alive in 1873) and Elizabeth Stewart (b circa 1809 d 1873). She married Walter Dalgleish (b. 1841 d. 1903) in 1866. I visited Earlston Churchyard, checking Dalgleish memorials, one of which contained some information I did not expect.  I have transcribed it below with spelling as carved. It is in fairly poor condition and is propped up against a wall so I think it is not in its original location.  I use a question mark to indicate an illegible letter or remainder of word.

Erected by
Walter Dalgleish
In memory of his son.
John Lindoers Dalgleish
Who died 28th July 1875
A?ged 19 Month?
Also his wif?
Isabella Lin?
Who died 27th Aug?
Aged 33 Y?
Also Betsy Stuart wife of
John Lindoers who died at Redpath
In 1873 aged 64 years
She has ceased from her labour
And safe in the arms of Jesus

I know that not too much reliance should be placed on spelling but I find this stone a bit of a puzzle.  On official records I have found record the name as Lindores (1866 Marriage cert) and Liandores (1873 Death cert).  I have used the spelling Lindores as it seems to be the most consistent but I am not sure as to how much relevance I should give to the other spellings or how to notate them on my tree.
If this of interest to you I have a digital photograph of the memorial.
