gaille - just to say thanks for the info. i didnt notice your post until just now.

have looked at the site you recommend and it does provide more info so thanks - good info on geography of where he lived.

i am aware of  the relative s mentioned - his wife and daughter and his parents. very mcuh like to find a full brother (therefore with his surname) or even a sister ....

someone from his family married into the rhodes siblings somehow. i want to rule our mary ellen/ her decendents from any marriage into the family and then will move on to thomas jones siblings .....

getting a bit closer

Found out that thomas jones (b 1858 runcorn, who married ada rhodes) owned The New Inn, runcorn (60A High Street).

he owned the navigation brewery, canal street, runcorn which ceased brewing in 1906.

Also that he was executor of Capt Edward John Smiths will and a great friend.

there are a couple of thomas jones listed as born in runcorn for this date - but i think his mother and father were anne and thomas jones , siblings, john, elinda, walter, victoria, annie, jessie, florence. this is the family that resided at high street.

therefore...possible that one of these chilren married into the smith family .......

things are going a bit slow at the moment.

not really got any infor on thomas jones siblings and their childrne yet.

have been looking again at the rhodes siblings.

frederick rhodes b 1856, wheelock , married alice amelia b 1869
they moved to hanley by 1901 census  (capt of titanics birthplace) and had 2 children mabel and cyril.

mary ellen rhodes married george priestman

george rhodes didnt get married - or at least he is living as a bacheolr with his brother frderick and family in 1901

william married anne in 1896 in toxteth park

henry albert howver MARRIED A SMITH!

she was called eleanor smith and they married in 1900. her father was born in 1850 called john smith b 1850 in halliwell in lancs. her siblings in the 1891 census were harold and eva.

is this just a coincidence? was eleanor edwards cousin??? how do i find edward smiths (ie titanic capt) uncles? edwards father (guess what - called edward smith) was born in 1805 (see 1851 census for edward john smith aged 1 ) but i dont know how to find his siblings?

in 1901 also eleanor and her relatively new husband are living with his mother ellen and guess who is next door ?  edward smith (the capt of titanic) as a visitor to thomas jones and ada jones (nee rhodes) -  (henrys sister)

can anyone help establish if this is the smith link? is eleanor smith who maried into the rhodes the link to capt of the titanic?

HI

Can't remember if you have posted this info or not and theat maybe I have overlooked it,  but when did Ada Jones nee Rhodes pass away.

Ar you certain as to whether Smith may have been Annabels married name or maiden name?
