capt of the titanic family link

can anyone help me find a link between two sets of ancestors.

the Rhodes family - George Rhodes (b 1820) married Ellen Pollitt  (b1821) and had several children (frederick, mary ellen, william arthur, george I, josiah, henry A) and they lived in Hanley, staffs.

one of those children was called Ada Rhodes b 1864 and she  married Thomas Jones b 1854 of runcorn. she then lived in runcorn after the marriage. She had a niece called Annabel Smith. i think she was married to someone in Capt edward john smith's (ie the capt of the titanic) family. He lived from 1850 - 1912) But i cant find out who she married or if there is another link between the Rhodes family and Capt of the titanic family. the Smiths were also brought up in Hanley.

i suspect mary ellen rhodes married a sibling of capt smiths.

the hancocks were half  siblings as edwards smiths mother had been married previously.

i need a brother or sister - or uncle or aunt with Smith surname who married into the Rhodes family i think.

Just clarifing ....I think Ellen is (Privet) her birth is Staffordshire BMD and Free BMD1838.17 146.

Not sure of this one.....Wolstanton 1880 a Frederick Smith to either Sarah Bromley ,or a Mary Ellen Rhodes....

I think that Mary Ellen Rhodes the daughter of George and Ellen more likely married in Runcorn in 1880 to George Priestman, as the family were living in Runcorn in 1871 and 1881, and there is a good match for Mary and George in 1881.  Given that we also have half-siblings of the Rhodes family under the surname Martin listed in 1861 - Ellen Barrat Pollitt married possibly George Martin in 1846, Ellen Barratt Martin married George Rhodes in 1855 - it's not clear exactly what the surname of Annabel's mother might be.

So, yes, let's try and trace Annabel, as she's the only firm link we have at the moment.

Hi - Hepburn and others - thanks for contributing  - no i have no dates for Annabel Smith - have a copy of Ada Jones (nee rhodes born in 1864) will  - and she leaves things to "her niece Annabel Smith"

the "talk" in my late grandfathers family was that Ada's sister was linked to the Smiths. As i can only find one sister for Ada (Mary Ellen Rhodes I have see if i can find who she married.

i have also found that in 1901 - Edward Smith and his wife Sarah Eleanor Pennington (born in 1861 and he married her in 1887 in Winwick) and their daughter Helen Melville were all visiting Thomas Jones and his wife Ada ....(nee  rhodes) ............ Also it is passed down that a sailor survivor (yet to find his name) used to regually visit Ada after the ship went down ......so there is certainly a link - its just finding it.

I originally thought the link was through Sarah Pennington - that may be her father /parents were linked to the Rhodes. But i can only find out who her father was - called william - her mother and grandwmother are unknown

yes Mary Ellen's mother married George Martin and had two children - rosanna and charles before she married george rhodes
