What do you think of this as a marriage?

Marriages Mar 1869

Bassett  John    Exeter  5b 164
Hill  Thomas     E. Stonehouse  5b 164
Snow  Jane Denford     Exeter  5b 164
Stocker  Elizabeth     Exeter  5b 164

Would have meant Elizabeth marrying at 16/17, was that legal?  ???

Oh yes, it would have been legal with parental consent. I'll try and find them in 1871 to see if they are already together.

Odd - tracing the Bassets Back, William and Margery are already together as Bassett in 1851 and 1841 (=before John's birth).

This is useful (IGI 1881) for William Bassett born in Morval, widowed showing father in laws surname as Southern which was thus Margery's maiden name:

It's the other way round - William Bassett is father in law to John Southern, who apparently married his daughter Sarah  ;)
