Hi Doun:
I am expanding on my private message to you in hopes someone else can assist.

I am surprised I have not seen this post previously, but I have not been on this site for a while.

The subject is of great interest to me.
William Anderson and Janet Stewart are my great great grandparents.
Little is known of William Anderson, even after years of research.
Only the 1841 census gives details, which is good but has some discrepacies.

I do not think William Anderson and Janet Taylor are the correct parents.
This connection was proposed by Malcolm Gray, a direct descendant and genealogist, based on the 1841 census and the Scottish Naming pattern. He clarified that this connection was a good guess and that searching for details of William Anderson has led to a geneaology dead end.
There is a grave marker for William Anderson and Janet Taylor, which includes a son William who lived into the 1880's. The William I need died in 1846 based on the birth record for his son William Stewart Anderson, which states his father is deceased.

Yes, Janet Stewart is a widow in 1851 and had three children, Ann, Janet and William.

Janet Sr. died in 1900, lived in Doune most of her life and I believe (my opinion only) she was related to most people, or atleast a lot of people, in and around Doune.
She did not re-marry and based on her death notice, William was important to her as well as him being a grocer was important, in my opinion.

I have not found a grave site for either William or Janet. This would help a lot.

Any assistance is very much appreciated.

There's an Anderson family at Craig Mill Village, Logie, Perthshire in 1841 consisting of William, 25; Janet, 20; William, 4; James, 2; John, 6 months.

They're still there in 1851: William, 15; Janet, 33; William, 17; James, 14; John, 12; Mary, 10; Janet, 5; Robert, 3; David, 4 months, all born Logie.

These look like the family of William A and Janet Matson: James b 1838; John 1840; Mary 1843; Janet 1845; Robert 1848; David 1850; Janet 1853, all in Logie.

William Stewart Anderson was baptised in Kilmadock, not in Logie. He is in the 1851 census in Kilmadock, aged 5, with his mother Janet (37), born Dunblane, and sister Janet (9). Ann is not listed with them.

There is a listing in 1841 in Kilmadock of William, 28; unnamed female, 26; and Ann, 1.

So I think the William Anderson married to Janet Stewart is not the one born in 1814 in Logie. Fortunately it should be easy to prove. There is indeed a death in Logie (PER), of William Anderson, aged 69, in 1884, mother's surname Taylor. You could view this certificate for purposes of elimination, as it will give the full names of his wife (if any) and parents, but it does seem to confirm that he's not your man.

Looks as if this Malcolm Gray has made the basic error of assuming that the only candidate in the surviving records has to be the right one.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

I have the 1841 census. There are minor discrepancies in ages given, for Janet (Mrs. Anderson) and Ann - a couple of months for each.
I have the 1851 census and Ann is with her grandparents.
This is all I have for William Anderson, which is why I am still searching for more information.
Were newspapers printed in Doune or Kilmadock in 1846? I have looked on-line and did not find any.
