i am trying to find out about the father and mother of tom and sean hales.. the father name was robert hales and was member of fenian brotherhood in knocknacurra ballindee co cork.. sean was shot on dail steps.. in 1922 and his brother tom was captured and tortured.. the torture scene in the wind that shakes the barley is based on that incident.. i am trying now to find out about the father robert and to find out their mothers name.. they also had a sister madge.. or marge..
i really would appreicate as much or little help anyone can give me.. thanks to all who help before  i got amazing information about the brothers...

Hello. Have you made any progress on this query? I have the family in the 1911 census and will post info for you if you are still interested. The mothers name was Margaret and they had several daughters, one named Mary Margaret, born abt 1890. More info if you still need it.

ah its a long time since i posted this and yes i have found out about the whole family.. in fact there is a chapter on them in a book called the ira and the community in cork.. excellent book can be got on amazon.. and i am in contact with a relation of theirs in australia... thanks for showing an interest..

Okay. Thanks. I am related only through marriage. Tom Hales wife Anna was the daughter of the aunt who raised my grandfather. Have been finding info in my Murphy quest. Have a great day!

oh right... i have tom birth and death cert and clippings from newspaper... that book would interest you .. you should get it.. they were a great patriotic family... none like them today.. great men..and their sister madge was impressive herself .. she had a initmate friendship with michael collins.. thats in the book by the way.. get it you will enjoy it..

I've  got the marriage certificate of  Sean and Roberts Hales parents and have been planning to email it to you with a few other details that I have...I've just been a bit busy.
Margaret was a Fitzgerald as I had guessed.
Also have some extra details on the Leahy's for you.

if you have not received that stuff i sent i will scan them and send them to your email from someones computer ok.. i dont have scanner yet.. have newspaper clippings certs.. etc..
