So you have got him on 1851 census, and got his marriage cert.
Before we start hunting around, what else have you already got? for example Have you got him on all the other censuses? Do you know if he had children or are we looking for that? etc etc

Hi There Thanks for reply What I have so far is  the marriage cert.with his father William Butler a builder, and I have him on the 1851 census for Doncaster. He was previously married to someone else and had  2 other children Edwin William Butler and Ann Butler born in Basford [IGI]in 1829 and 1832 not sure if any others. When he married Jane Dyson in 1840  he was down as a widower his address was Stoke on Trent They appear to have had a son before they got married called Thomas Dyson Butler in 1838, then after marriage children Elizabeth Butler/Jane Rebecca Butler/Mary Butler/Ellen Butler [my great gran] and Kate Butler . Sadly he died in 1860 in Wath [ informant at death was Annie Butler daughter ]so not on any more censuses.I would like to get farther back with his tree but am stuck there.

1841
HO107 1329 12

Town End, Wath upon Deane

John Dyson 60 shoe manufacturor
Ann Dyson 60
Matthias Dyson 20 Artist
Zebulon Dyson 15 Artist
Thomas Dyson 4
Mary Tilbury 20
Eliza Tilbury 3
Edwin Butler 8

all bn in county

Such a shame relationships are not given, but possible that Thoams Dyson (later taking surname Butler) is with maternal grandparents here, and so is their step grandson Edwin.
If Thomas is Illegit child of Jane, then we will never know if William Butler was his father or not.  Probably unlikely, as he was born 2 or 3 years before they married

A possible older child baptised Basford

CHARLES BUTLER
Christening:  07 MAY 1822   Basford, Nottingham
Father:  WILLIAM BUTLER
Mother:  ANN

William's age at burial shows he was may have been older than the age shown on the 1851 census (perhaps reducing his age with a younger second wife)

Burial 1st July 1860 All Saints Wath upon Dearne
William Butler aged 69

Jane's first child's baptism (no birth registration)

THOMAS DYSON
Christening:  16 JUL 1837   Wath Upon Dearne, Yorkshire
Mother:  JANE DYSON

and potentially older children baptised in Wath upon Deane to a William and Ann

JAMES BUTLER
Christening:  31 MAY 1818   Wath Upon Dearne, Yorkshire
Father:  WILLIAM BUTLER
Mother:  ANN

Burial 28th February 1841 All Saints Wath upon Dearne
James Butler aged 22

JOSEPH BUTLER
Christening:  02 APR 1820  Wath Upon Dearne, Yorkshire
Father:  WILLIAM BUTLER
Mother:  ANN

Burial 26th July 1830 All Saints Wath upon Dearne
Joseph Butler aged 10

It might be worth checking whether William left a will to see whether he names any children from his first marriage that are unknown.

St Leonard Streatham baptism records are only covered on the IGI from 1801.

Hello William Butler - I'm sorry this is not much use to you regarding your Butler family but I am most interested to read you may have a photograph of Henry Milnes and is family. His daughter Ruth was married to my great grandfather John Clayton ( C. & J. Clayton Ltd Box Tree Mill Bradford) and was the love of his life. Sadly she died very young and so did her son some five years later. Eli Milnes was a famous architect and his work is still very much in evidence in Bradford to this day.
If were possible to see this photograph I would be most interested as would my 87 year old mother
Many thanks and good luck with your researchs.
Richard Haynes
