I have checked the Scottish 1841 for Susan Robinson but none match her profile

I cannot find an English marriage between 1841-1851 so wonder if they may have married in Scotland

Carol

I looked again at this earlier. The only only possibility I am seeing is a SARAH Robertson in North Shields with family, she is not with the family by 1851:

1841: HO107; Piece 825; Book: 9;
1851: HO107; Piece: 2409; Folio: 346;

This family shows as born in Peterhead, Aberdeen in the 1851 census.

What worries me though is that Sarah is not a variant of Susan that I am aware of  :-\ Still not seeing a possible marriage with a first name Sarah though.

Hi Monica

There is no marriage entry for a Charles Gouch between 1841-1851 either.  I had hoped if I found one - there would be an uneven number of males to females which would solve the problem.

I did find this 1841 entry though for Yorkshire but cannot find them on the 1851 at the moment

Charles Gouch 20 ag lab not b in county
Mary 20 b in county
Elizabeth 3mths b in county

A few possible christenings for them on IGI:

1. ELIZABETH GOUCH  Christening: 07 MAR 1841 Braithwell, Yorkshire
2. JOHN GOUCH Christening: 29 JAN 1843 Braithwell, Yorkshire
3. MARY ANN GOUCH Christening: 10 MAY 1846 St Peter, Brighton, Sussex..a maybe because of the change of location

Hi Linda

I think the person you are looking for is Susan Gordon Robertson who was baptised on 23rd April 1826 in Peterhead. Her father was Joseph Robertson, a carpenter. Witnesses at the baptism were Joseph and William Robertson.
It seems very likely that Susan's mother was Mary Ogston who married Joseph Robertson, a carpenter on 23rd December 1821 in Peterhead.

Susan had brothers: Joseph - baptised 2nd October 1822 in Peterhead
                                 John Ogston - baptised  24th June 1824 in Aberdeen
                                 James - baptised ?   born about 1828
                                 Frederick - baptised ?   born about 1830
                                 George - baptised 1832 in Arbroath.

In 1822 and 1824 Susan's father was described as a carpenter but by1832 he was a coastguard.
In the 1841 Census, when the family are living in Milbourne Place in North Shields it looks like mother Mary is described as "sailor's wife" (husband Joseph is not at home).
It's a mystery as to why Susan has been recorded as Sarah in 1841 but it may just be an error by the recorder.

Further evidence to link Susan to this family is that in 1873 her brother Frederick named his 2nd daughter Susan Gordon Robertson.

Hi Linda,

I think my 4X great grandmother Mary Laughton nee Robertson is possibly the sister of Susan's father, Joseph.

So far I've been unable to find concrete evidence to link Joseph and my Mary but I think you'll agree that the following evidence of their closeness indicates that they were almost certainly related in some way.

My Mary Robertson married Samuel Laughton, a sailor in Peterhead in 1824 and over the following years both Samuel Laughton and Joseph Robertson witnessed the baptisms of each others children in Peterhead.
In 1841, both families were living in Milbourne place in North Shields.
Susan's brother Frederick was a witness at my 3X great grandmother's wedding and another brother James registered the death of Samuel Laughton in 1848.
Looking at the 1851 Census,  Susan's mother Mary appears to have taken in the youngest Laughton child, Elizabeth when she was orphaned in 1849 following the death of her mother in the Cholera epidemic.

That's all for now but I'll get back to you with a bit more information today or tomorrow.

Kind regards
Carolyn
