John Robinson, vicar of St Laurence Church, York, 1861 census

I am trying to carry out some research on the above individual. According to the 1861 census he was born in 1799, was a widower, with two sons Edward born 1832 and John Carlton born in 1833. According to the latter-day Sts records, John Carlton and Edward were the sons of a John Robinson and Elizabeth.

I am unable to find any firm details about these individuals prior to 1861 and wondered whether anybody would be willing to add to my present knowledge. I believe there were two other children born to John and Elizabeth being George Robinson born in 1835 Julia Henrietta Robinson born April 1837. They were all christened at St Olaves York.

I am particularly interested in his wife's maiden name and also his parents.

I have a little booklet on St Laurence from c. 1930s.

There is a list of vicars which shows John was vicar from 1843-1867.  He was succeeded in 1867 by George Frederick Wade who launched an appeal for a new church.  Rev. John Robinson is listed as having donated £100 to the appeal.

I can't see any other mention of him but thought these snippits may be of interest.

Crockford's Clerical Directory shows that he went to Corpus Christi Coll. Cambridge and got his B.A. in 1820 and  M.A. in 1826.  He was made Deacon in 1821 and Priest in 1823.   Cambridge Alumni records show the following:

Born 20th Oct 1798
Died 29th Dec 1879
 Of Yorkshire.   
He was the 5th son of Hugh Robinson, Admiral.  Went to school at Bingley.   
Curate. of Bothal, Northumberland, 1821-4.
Chaplain, R.N., 1824-5
 Curate of Hurworth, Durham, 1825-7
 Rector of St Denys with St George, York, 1830-40
 Vicar of Amberley, Sussex, 1840-3
 Vicar of St Lawrence, York, 1843-67
 Married in 1831 to Elizabeth, daughter of the Rev. Edward Otter,
Rector of Bothal.
Latterly of Clifton, York, where he died Dec. 29, 1879.
(Crockford I have quoted and there must be an obituary in The Guardian of Jan. 14th 1880 as that is mentioned.)

Have a look at the IGI on familysearch.org   Batch number C071862   That lists a few children for Hugh Robinson, including a John with the right birth date.
