Skinners Friendly Society Leeds
« on: Monday 14 February 05 23:08 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know anything about this organisation. My Great Great Grandfather John Abbott prepared the accounts for 1854 which I possess.

In 1852 he was secretary of The Spanish Leather Works Mutual Improvement Society.
Anyone with an interest in these organisations please contact me.
Thanks Les

Hi,

My Great-Great-Great Grandfather (John Atha) was a Skinner in 1851 in Leeds (Holbeck/Hunslet area), by 1871 he was a Leather Manufacturer working from Belinda Street in Hunslet and continued to run this with his son James Atha until he died in 1907.  Unfortunately, James also died 3 months after his father and I am not sure what happened to the place afterwards.

If you have any information on John or James, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

Isn't it strange the way things turn out You'd think nobody elsecoud possibly have anything to do with Skinners and lLeather and somebody comes along.

I.m beginning to think that we are either all related anyway or lived next door to someone who was.
