Alexander Berry & Elspeth Simpson
« on: Friday 27 February 09 20:31 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have information on the occupations of Alexander berry (b 15/8/1784) died 27/3/1855 Ferryport on Craig and his wife
Elspeth Simpson b 4/5/1792 died 1870 also Ferryport on Craig. I am guessing he was a farm worker - but wondered if anyone else has info?
Thanks :)

I have Alex and Elspeth on the 1841 census as residing in Nicolson Street, Ferry port on Craig, his occupation is given as mason.  Later documents show him as master builder.
Incidentally next door in 1841 is a Christian Simpson with children, David, Jane, Catherine and Elizabeth.
I will do a bit more research to see if this could be Elspeth's sister.

Elspeth did have a sister Christian, but this isn't her. The Christian in question would appear to be the wife/widow of a James Simpson.  Her maiden name was Pryde, and they were married in FpoC in 1829.
Elspeth doesn't appear to have had a brother James, though this may be a cousin.
