Hello All,
Just a quick note for Sussex/Lewes enthusiasts: the Crimean War Lewes prisoners memorial at St Johns is being rededicated on this Saturday 28th September at 12 noon, after restoration paid for by Finnish and Russian embassies and contribution by Aland islanders.
It's a public ceremony I believe...
And note another connection - Serjeant Richard Davis 11th Hussars, who was wounded in the famous charge at Balaklava is buried not 50 yards away. His grave sadly overgrown, but if I get time in the next couple of days, I'll clear some of the overgrowth away... Many thanks to Chris1066 for mentioning the grave site to me many years ago. It'd be nice to see it restored, which I am hoping to prompt one day!
Roy
