Hi Johngirl

Have checked my Lewes Databases for DUFFY - i.e. St John Sub Castro, All Saints, South Malling & Southover - but the name does not crop up as yet.

There is also St Michael, Cliffe and St Annes that I do not have info for - so may be there

Sorry

Thankyou Chris,

I haven`t got a great deal of information on my Duffy ancestors. I only have a marriage for a Frances Duffy who married a William Condon in 1833 at St Nicholas Church Brighton. As you can see I don`t know much about English Parishes and Countys. I live in Australia. Frances Duffy was my GG Grandmothers mother. Ann Condon [alias Duffy] was transported to Tasmania. I`m trying to establish who her father may have been so I`m in search for Duffy`s. Ann according to her convict record was born in Brighton about 1828. Her father may have died so I`m asuming he is buried somewhere near Brighton although Frances may have never been married at all to a Duffy it may have been her birth surname.

Chris,

Thanks for the superb info, I had some sketchy details but this helps enormously. I must pay a visit to the parish and have a look around for myself.

Any suggestions on where I might get some more threads to follow up on especially on the local history of the family, I know one of them was a high sherrif of Sussex at one time and reputed to be one of the richest gents on the south downs for a period but would like to uncover some more detail.

Thanks again

Steve Tourle

Thankyou Chris,

It says that Frances was a widow so that means she was married at some stage to a Duffy. Will see if I can find a Baptism for Ann ,maybe I will then find out who her father was.

Yes, got to agree with you - but that marraige did not take place here in Sussex (not on SMI) so must be in a neighbouring county - possibly Kent.

Maybe an enquiry on the Kent board might not go amiss

Thankyou once again Chris,

I must get a detailed map of England and start trying to figure out where all the Towns and Countys are.I get confused. ???

Will post on the Kent board as you suggested. :)

Chris:

Could you check to see if there are any Brigman/Briggman/Bridg(e)man surnames???  I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks,
