1839 dead end at Joseph Sharp + Mary Wood marriage.

       Up to now I have been able to combine information from family records, England censuses, ancestry.co.uk and family search.org to find ancestors.   Even had what I thought were my fourth generation grandparents.  Due to not being rich I have not purchased BMD records.  Recently I obtained the marriage certificate of Joseph Sharp to Mary Wood, May 5,1839, Rothwell,  Yorkshire and much to my surprise their fathers were not the names I had.  Joseph's father is listed as Benjamin Sharp, clothier and Mary's father as Samuel Wood, mechanic.  Both bride and groom lived on Carr Lane {town unknown}.  Can anyone help?
      Added information: Marriage took place in the Parish Church in the Parish of Rothwell by John Bell, Vicar.  Witnesses were Samuel Lister and Martha
Woodhead.  According to the censuses Joseph was born in Leeds.  Do not know were Mary was born because 1841 census did not have that information and by the 1851 census it appears she had passed away because she is no longer listed as part of the family unit.  Joseph 38 is listed as a widower with three children, Mary Ann 10, Sarah 8 and Maria 6.  Could not find birth or death of Mary due there been too many births of  "Mary Wood" and too many deaths of "Mary Sharp" in Yorkshire.

Oh dear.  This is one of the problems of not verifying information with certificates but it is an expensive business I agree.    Looking at the church register gives the same information much more cheaply after 1837 but that is not always feasible if you do not know the church!   Can you quote all the information on the certificate, including witnesses?  Carr Lane will be within the parish of that particular church.
The registers of Rothwell church are on the IGI up to 1839 so if the family are local you may find them on there.  An 1841 census search may find them too.   Do you already have Joseph and Mary?   Can you quote the reference?  Where do they give as their places of birth in later census?
Local directories might help with locating the fathers too.

Thanks for the pm.  I am struggling a bit here as I cannot find them in 1841.  There is a Joseph Sharp in Rothwell but not the right one.  What is the reference?     I had a quick look at deaths for Benjamin as that is a more unusual name.  There were several possibles in Leeds.  I would be tempted to write to the local registrar and ask if any of them have occupation Clothier.   It is a bit of a stab in the dark but it might work as they are usually very helpful at local level.   You could try the same with Mary - wife of Joseph.  All their children are born in Leeds so she will probably have died there.   I assume you do have a birth certificate for one of the children so you are sure her name was Wood.
Where were the children baptised?   Looking at the film of the parish register at your nearest LDS centre may well bring up the burials for you.
