ladyluck,

John Flannery would have to be born approx 1868....what year was he born in?  I am still just starting out on researching the Flannery side of my family.

Casalguidi,

I believe that the people you found are indeed my relatives as I know my gr grandmother was born in 1884 in Margate.  How did you find the emigrant record?  I have been searching for the last 9 months for this record and here in Canada, they say they have no record of her ever coming to Canada....I would be very interested in seeing that.

Thanks again fo the help!

tgit

Hi Tgit

Edith FLANNERY age 34 arrived Quebec from London, England on the "Tunisian" 6 July 1920 with Patrick and Joan (via the Salvation Army) destination Toronto intending to work on a farm.  Indeed the Salvation Army did assist people to emigrate in order to make a better life for themselves.

There are a number of indexes to passenger lists available online ie. http://www.findmypast.com/home.jsp http://www.ancestry.com and you can see the originals http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/022-908-e.html

Hi Tgit

If you ever manage to track down a male Flannery relative, be sure to encourage him to compare Y-chromosomes with the Flannery Clan Y-DNA Project using a quick and easy cheek swab test.  It might help you to advance your research by matching other Flannery families with documented roots in specific locations in Ireland.  Best of luck.

I can tell you something about Patrick Flannery. I am Jayne Flannery, great grandaughter of John Flannery, his younger brother who was born also in Bombay, India in 1868. According to my family story, Patrick left on the klondike gold rush and was never seen or heard of again. Julia, the sister also emigrated but kept in touch with John and his children. I have photographs of John Flannery and his wife Eliza. I would love to know more about the parents of John, Patrick and Julia. I was told they were murdered in an uprising in Bombay prior to their three children going to Medway Union workhouse in Kent. Does anyone know anything about them.  I was told by John´s daughter Elsie, now dead, that John´s mother was a dutch planter´s daughter. John´s father was in the British Army. Where was he born? In which regiment?

Hi there, I am in need of some help with finding out more information regarding my maternal grandmother's father.  Unfortunately, everyone who may have had this information has passed away and I am not sure where to go from here.  My grandmother (who passed away 22 years ago) wrote this note regarding her father.  This is the most information I have been able to find on him.

"Patrick Flannery was born in India 17 Mar 1863.  His father was in the army in India.  At that time India was a British Colony.  Both of Patrick's parents contracted a disease and died in India.  Patrick was sent back to Grimsby, England, with his 2 brothers and 1 sister to an orphanage.

Patrick Flannery was in the English Army most of his life including the Boer War.  Dishcharged 2 years before death because of ill health.

Florence Edith Rose Cook Flannery worked as a maid for a Lord Michael and he was married to an actress.  Married in 1910, her husband died 4 years after they were married.  She came to Canada 1920 (June) for better living purpose."

I can tell you that he had two children with Florence Cook, my grandmother, Edith Joan Flannery born 7 Sep 1911 and Patrick Flannery born 4 months prior to his death in 1913.  I know that he passed away 12 Mar 1913.

I am looking to find out the following things:

1.  What orphanage he went to
2.  What his siblings names were
3.  What his parents names were

If you have any suggestions on how I can further research his parents that would be most helpful and muchly appreciated.  I am not sure where to start looking for them as I am unsure of where to look, whether it would be with the British Army or within India.

Thank you so much for any help you are able to give me.
