Middlesbrough baptisms
« on: Wednesday 25 February 09 22:54 GMT (UK) »
I have a whole bunch of people for whom I want to trace the baptism records but it's quite a daunting task to look through all the Middlesbrough parishes, even with half an idea which one they may be in.
I know that Ecneps previously supplied some codes from the Tees Valley Indexes and what they meant. I'm hoping she spots this and perhaps knows what MJ code is. I was going to send a PM but thought it may benefit other people if it's on the message board.

Where are you Ecneps??!!     Please can you help?

Right here  :D

I posted the Tees Valley references numbers for Middlesbrough here, as supplied by Mbro reg office:  http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,356819.0.html

M-J though, means register office for marriages, or churches that the registrar had to go out to, (non-conformist or in the early days R.C) - so might not be any help sorry
I think baptisms were M-L but you can always email the reg office for more details

Hope this helps - any queries please contact the appropriate Register Offices - details on the Tees Valley website http://www.middlesbrough-indexes.co.uk/search.php

Thank you for your prompt service Barbara! I've copied the list onto a document I can keep for future reference.

I've looked up the birth records on the Tees Valley website and it gives me MJ codes for all of them. The next part of the code for one of them is 071, your list shows 71 as Southfield Road Methodist, so perhaps it could be there. I know that the family lived around the Linthorpe area at the time, they were Wesleyan Methodists so that does fit in the Non Conformist bracket, maybe they were different for baptisms as well. I'll try the Register Office and see what they have to say. Thanks for your help.

P.S. Don't suppose you know what SN and SW are for Stockton? (Pushing my luck here!  ;))

Always try to keep one step ahead!  :D

Hope this post helps others find their way to the lists, it may save the register offices being inundated with requests, although they're all happy to help if you phone or email them.

They all seem to have disappeared into the ether.  How annoying.

Not sure what's happened here, the Redcar & Cleveland list is also on the link Andrea has given below.  No idea where the Durham ones have got to, trying to sort it out

Barbara  :-\

edit: the links are now fixed :)
