Hi

I know that I could purchase the birth certificates but I'm just trying to save myself £14

You would only need to purchase one certificate to get her maiden name

thats a good shout Marj as Prescot and Newton Le Willows are quite close....probably 11 miles from Hale to Newton though....still well worth looking into...allan ;)
ADDED....looking at Maggies post regarding Martha Jane Challinor  dec qtr 1874 in Birkenhead Ref No 8a 477 and looking across the river from Hale to Birkenhead district,I`m pretty sure Maggie is right with the connection...hopefully speak to the vicar soon...would be nice to get the mothers maiden name...allan  ::)

How rude of me, I haven't replied to either of you.  I must have missed this thread :-[ :-[ :-[

Marj - I have that marriage!  Richard Challinor married Jane Trow, they were my GGG Grandparents.  Richard had been married before to an Emma Hughes and had 4 children.  When married to Jane he went on to have another 6 children, all born in Newtown, Powys.

This mystery began when a distant rellie (descended from Richard and Emma's son Thomas) sent me all the family details from their bible, and listed were Richard with both wives and both sets of children.  Martha and Charles were listed as Richard and Jane's children, although I'm not convinced ???

I suppose the quickest way to solve this mystery is purchase one of their birth certificates - oh no, more money ;D

5 years later and I've picked up where I left off with these Challinors!!

I have purchased a FindMyPast subscription and have found Charles Frederick & Martha Jane listed in the 1880 Newtown (Montgomeryshire) death register, both died of scarlet fever.  Also listed on the same page is Bertie Challinor, who also died of scarlet fever.  Interestingly, all children are listed as living in Back Lane, Newtown, which is where the rest of the family remained for many years.

Think I can safely say they were all children of Richard Challinor & Jane Trow but I've still got to solve the mystery of the Lancashire births :-\

I would think if you want full proof verification or confirmation on these events (places or abodes, maiden names  at birth) then only the purchase of GRO certificates or local register office certificates will do this.

Census info should give abode locations of sibling birth or death years between 10 years census years of a family
In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth
