Hello Heather
I am  the Grandson of David John, the photo is of David Johns Mother Eliza and if you notice the roses at the back of the picture there is a house that I know where a cutting taken from them still grows. The cutting was taken by my Uncle Robert who loved Roses
and he planted a cutting at his house at Castleagree , although he has now passed away

My grandfather Davig John ( Blacksmith) married Jeannie Shields in Dervock Presbyterian church on 14/10/08 when he was 20 years old. Jeannie came from The Coole and her Father John was a farmer. . Witnesses to the marrage were Hugh Winlock and Margeret Shields. I have attached a Photo of both and also a Photo of my grandfather on his own with a greyhound. The McConaghies were found of and bred them and David Johns Father was run over by a train in Ballymena after a dog race , some say hit on the head and put there by a man who owed him money from a bet.

David John ( lets call him senior) was married on 1/4/1887 at Mosside Presbyterian Church By Rev Johnston. His Bride was Eliza McMullan who has been married before to a James Boyd. Eliza and James had a girl called Daisy who was 2( I think from memory) when Hugh died . David John senior raised this Child as his own.

The marrage of James Boyd and Eliza had taken place in 1/4/1881-- interesting to note both weddings took place on 1st April and James was also a Blacksmith

In the 1901 census David senior was still alive but in the 1911 Eliza was a widow. It was when his Father vdied that David John (junior) took over the Blacksmiths shop and reared hos brothers and sisters.

I have attached a photo of Daisy as a young child with her mother and two of her stepbrothers

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
My computer is broken at the moment so I'm doing this on my phone with no records in front of me. I'm going to have to work off my memory!
The daughter I have for James Boyd and Eliza McMullan is Sarah. Born in 1881 and baptised in Mosside Presbyterian Church. The only Daisy I have is the daughter of David McConaghie and Jeannie Shields born in the 1920s. So is the girl in your photo Sarah or Daisy?
I can't seem to see any other photos that you posted but I'm not sure if it's because I'm on my phone and not my computer.
Heather

Hello Heather from Australia

sorry you are right the name is Sarah. I was doing most of this from memory

The lady in the picture is Sarah who married a McGoogan -- these were their children Tommy Lee on the left Daisy the girl in the middle and Squire on the right.

The Father of David John senior was Hugh McConaghy (spelt with y) he was married to a Jane Winlock. Hugh was a stonemason and to the best of my knowledgh may have  built Toberkeigh church.

There is record in Benvarden Presbyterian Church of the baptism of David John senior who was born 6/12/1864.

Family oral history says that the McConaghies came to Ireland as Blacksmiths to the Stewarts of Ballintoy, however this is oral history

A decendant of Sarah lives in Bushmills, but out of respect I dont think I should publish his name on an open forum.

There is still alive a Grandchild of David John Senior who I keep in contact with but again out of respect of her privacy I dont think if fair to publish her name on public forum.

Im not sure however If there is some way we can contact each other by E-Mail.

I live just outside Melbourne Australia and from what I can gather you live in Ballymoney

I again will attach a Photo of David John junior

Hello!

I have just seen this message now! How exciting. I'm a little lost as to where we are at but I will have a slow read through these posts and try to figure it out.

I will also see if I can private message you as I would love to chat more. Re the confusion about Daisy, my grandfather did have a sister or auntie called Daisy.

Hope to speak soon!
