Rutherford family from Bonnybridge
« on: Tuesday 24 February 09 16:51 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if anyone has any information on the following Rutherford family.
The Rutherford family came from the Dunbartonshire/Stirlingshire area of Scotland.

Margaret Liddle Rutherford, Domestic Servant, was born on 17th April 1877 at Leadgate in Kirkintilloch.
Margaret died in Bonnybridge on 28th May 1941.
Margaret was married to John Docherty.
John was born on 9th October 1871 at Aitchison Street, Airdrie.
John and Margaret married on 30th Dec 1898 in St. Ninians RC Church, Kirkintilloch.
John died at Magersfontein, Africa on 11th Dec 1899 whilst fighting in the Boer War.

Margaret's parents were William Rutherford, Tailor and Margaret Hendrie, Housekeeper.
William and Margaret were married on 21st Aug 1874 at Cumberland Street, Gorbals, Glasgow.
Margaret was born in 1856 in Kirkintilloch.
Margaret died on 16 Nov 1898 at Freeland Place in Kirkintilloch.
William died on 20th Nov 1881 at Salen in Argyllshire.
The parents of William Rutherford were James Rutherford and Fanny Rutherford.
So if anyone can provide any information on the Rutherford's mentioned above, it would be appreciated, as I am working on the family tree for a friend.

Hi Wilton

I have just started tonight looking into my family history and after 3 hours of taking loads of dead ends -and finding out a few interesting facts! i just plugged names into goggle search and to my surprise i found your listing here.

It seems your are searching for my family history!
would be very interested to discuss info with you further and find out on who's behalf you are doing this for - as they could be/maybe a distant relative of mine?

so to give you the background i have and how it links to your searches.

Margaret Liddle Rutherford is my great Gran and her parents - therefore  great great releations!.
She  re - married in 1900 to Andrew Campbell (statutory marriages record 644/050212)
Margaret died in 1945 and not 1941 - (statutory deaths- 473/000028) in bonneybridge
Margaret and andrew Campbell children are - andrew mcgill campbell, John campbell, Ian campbell, nancy campbell, Jeanie low Campbell (my Nan) and peggy.

So this is why i am doing the search into the rutherfords.

i would be very greatfull for details of where you got your info from and record numbers - so i can print these off and use for reference myself.

i have no info to further your search at present - but i will look into this more and ill ask the family if anyone knows anything at all that might help us along the journey.

look forward to hearing back from you.

regards

Lucia banks

hi - stumbled accross this while researching people connected to Mull.

I was writing up the death of William Rutherford, born about 1850 (where ?). He died Salen, Mull  20 Nov 1881 (Informant - Donald Fletcher, friend).

The IGI has his marriage as Tradeston and not Gorbals. Please confirm which if you have the BDM.

Also, his wife Margaret Hendry/Hendrie born 1856 Kirkintilloch. Which one please ? (the IGI is showing two births)

Hello Michael,
i'm researching the tree for a friend. As that is his family line.
William Rutherford was born England in 1854. He was a master tailor as his occupation. He died on 20th November 1881 in Salen, Scotland.
He married in Tradeston, Glasgow on 21st August 1874. We have the certificate of him marrying on 21 Aug at 15 Cumberland Street in Glasgow. This certificate gives her mother's name as Fanny Rutherford.

His wife's name was Margaret Hendrie. Margaret was born 1856 in Kirkintilloch. Margaret died in Kirkintilloch on 16th November 1898.
William's Father was James Rutherford whose occupation was also a tailor. He was born 1825 in Ireland.
William's Mother was Frances Rutherford who was born Ireland in 1823.
On the above marriage certificate, it lists Margarets parents as James Hendry and Margaret Liddell.

We also have William's death certificate from Salen, Argyllshire.

Hello, a little late to the party.

Looks like I'm a distant relative from Margaret and Andrew Campbell. My grandad was John Campbell. Also know as John Mcgill Campbell.

Would be great to be in touch with other family members to find out more.
