London College of Music
« on: Tuesday 24 February 09 15:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I wonder if anyone can help me.... I have been given two medals which belonged to my Mother they are both from the London College of Music and dated December 1941, on the reverse it says "Barbara Taylor - Pianoforte - Senior, I also have a photograph of her in cap and gown with the medals on and holding her diploma.... I am trying to find details of the London College of Music from around that date, the only website I can come up with is music.tvu.ac.uk but there is no real information on its history.
What I am looking for is did they do distance learning as long ago as 1941 as my mother came from Nantwich, Cheshire and I don't believe she would have gone to a college in London when she was only 14.
Any info would be appreciated,
Thanks

I would assume that she sat the exams in one of the external centres - just as they do today.  You can find details about it on Wikipedia
