Hi

What I was given was:

Alfred John Stark m Florence Daisy Bound 1923 (Cardiff Registration District)
together with children are:
Thelma H Stark 1924 Cardiff
Olive E 1926 Stark Cardiff
Bernard E Stark 1928 Cardiff
Pauline Stark 1931 Cardiff

This all does seem to tie in with what bits (and I mean bits) coming from the family.  Olive being my Wife's mother and the rest Aunties and Uncle

I hope to arrange a visit to either Pauline or Thelma next week, but not holding too much hope on that.
My trip to the Glam Record Office has been change to Monday due to unforseen circumstances.
However, as tomorrow is the big day,(our aniv) I have enough to tell my wife about her grandfather.

Thanks everyone for their help.

Hi

Tati I think you have been spot on yet again.
It seems as if everything is upside down again with me chasing the wrong man.
I now can prove who Alfred was by virtue of a house he owned in 1955-7 which was owned by Alfred W Stark b 1898.
I can also now go back to his grandfather.
Father Bernard Adolphous b 1874, Bedminster Bristol wife Ellen Jewel which as yet I have little on.
G/Father Edmund b 1842 Shepton W Martha b 1841 Twerton.
Bernard was one of five children.
Of course this is all yet to be verified, but it does blend in the mix better.

Bound is definately the G/Mother as per my wife's mother aunt and uncles birth records.  We know she was called Daisy as everyone called her that.  Anything else is exc b 5 Feb 1904 and death 1996 Southampton is all unknown.

Hope this all makes sense and thanks again.

I like that better!

Do you want census returns for these people?

1901
RG13/4985 20 31 & 32
Canton, Glamorgan
31 Wyndham St

B Stark, head, 29, General Dealer, own account, b. Bristol
Ellen, wife, 35, b. Somerset Dulverton
A, son, 6, b. Glamorgan Cardiff
Hettie, dau, 4, b. Cardiff
Alfred, son, 3, b. do.
R, son, 9 mo, b. do.

Maybe R is in fact Walter - there's a birth
Walter Reuben J Stark
Sep 1900 Cardiff 11a 396

Bernard in 1881 with his parents, which I assume you have:
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=uki1881&indiv=try&h=5897745
RG11/2465 75 17

I'm wondering if Ellen wasn't a little older than she pretended to be. There's an Ellen Jewell in Cardiff on earlier censuses, born ca. 1860 Dulverton (daughter of William and Caroline)

Hi

Yes I think I am up and ruinning with you at the moment.

I have found Bernard (Burnard) at Wyndham St an this looks about right too.

I didn't have Walter Reuben Stark thogh.

Ellen sounds plausable and I will do some more work in that area.  I have already noted her, but was half waiting for someone to comeback from within the family, but, as usual, I think I will have to do chasing.

Hettie keps ringing bells in my head and I am sure something was said about her a long time ago, but what is another thing?

I thik this is as close as it gets without a visit to Somerst Records which I may do when I'm next at my Caravan in Devon.

Happy Hunting and THANKS again

Hi,
By the way, the other Ellens I am looking into are:
born 1864, 71, 77, 80

1864
Elizabeth (Head)
2 Grosvenor Terr
Cencus Place Barnstaple

1871
William & Jane
Slade Road
Census Place Ilfracombe

1877
Lodger withtwo other sisters at
1 Belvedere Cottages
Cencus Place Ilfracombe

1880
John & Mary
13 Pimlico
Census Place Bideford

All these could reasonably be in the frame until I can rule them out.

It's a fun game isn't it

None of the above Ellens were born Dulverton Somerset though, and 1880 seems very much out ... she'd have been only 14 when she married. Ellen is down as 35 in 1901 when her husband is only 29 - I doubt she'd have said that if she was only 21.

There's one Ellen Jewell registered in Dulverton Jun 1866 who could be another contender - unfortunately I can't see her on any census  :-\

Hi

I had an email this morning from someone in Genes Reuinited.  They sent me certificates following the families of Alfred,
his parents Bernard and Ellen,
his Grand parents Edmund and Martha
and G/Grandparents Daniel b 1806 and Frances b 1811 from Shepton Mallet
Edmund b 1841 Shepton Mallet
Martha 1841 Twerton
Bernard  b 1874 Bedminster
Ellen b 1860 Dulverton
Mariied 1894 Cardiff
Alfred W b 1898 Cardiff
Florence Daisy Bond 5 Feb 1904 posibly Southampton where she died in 1996
m 1923 Cardiff

I still have to verify things, but she appears to be related to the Stark family as she has quite a bit of info on them in her tree.

Could she be right?

Seems to confirm what we have found so far  :)

Edmund's wife was Martha (Caroline) Alder, born 1841 Twerton Somerset.

Can't find Florence Daisy's birth though.

More complications.

Florence D Bound was Alfred W Starks wife, but she died in Cardiff  on the   6th May 1961 at the age of 59 making her born 1902.
This came from her death certificate.

We found James Carbis's Birth cert,(Olive Stark's husband) but all that was on it was the date 13 th June 1925.  He died in a RTA on way home when my wife was 4.

At least I can now begin to check on Florence knowing her birth year and will be making another trip to the records office next week.
