Hi, well I can tell you that most of Henry Street is still there, just drived down it on the way home.
If you can give me more details I may be able to help.

On the 1901 census Albert House is the very first house in Henry Street. The order is Albert House, Ivy House, then 2, 4, 6, ....

So I take it that Albert House would be the first house round the corner from Middlewich Street - assuming the numbers start from that end.

thanks for the posts!

Nice to hear the street still survives - I just wondered if the building was still standing too.

I can go and visit the area then or if anyone knows of an old photo anywhere?!!

best wishes,

Ian

Ian, do you know whereabouts in Henry Street this building was?
I could take a photo for you if you can give me some indication of its location in the street.  If you look on Streetmap UK for Henry Street and then tell me whereabouts from the Middlewich Street Junction with Henry Street I could look for the building.  Only one word of caution.  There are now some OAP's bungalows near to the junction with Middlewich Street on the left if you are entering Henry Street from Middlewich Street.

only have what pepsi advised from the 1901 census:

"On the 1901 census Albert House is the very first house in Henry Street. The order is Albert House, Ivy House, then 2, 4, 6, ....
So I take it that Albert House would be the first house round the corner from Middlewich Street - assuming the numbers start from that end."

thanks anyway

best wishes,

Ian

Kath,
The 1881 census has Albert House next to Hall O'Shaw Farm - so it may be that it is at the other end of Henry street.

Ian,
Don't know if these are of interest to you but I was having a bit of a Google and came across two references to Albert House:

LancsGen-LArchives -
1913 - Gladys Holmes, Albert House, Henry Street, Crewe.

Cheshire-LArchives:
John Rigg m. Martha Fletcher and they lived at Albert House from 1867 up to after 1881.
