Immmigration to Australia
« on: Sunday 13 February 05 23:59 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I am running into brick walls trying to find out when/where/which ship various ancestors arrived in Australia.  The only ones I have found are my Piddingtons, Annie & George who arrived on the 'North' in 1883, and the Godleys who arrived on the 'Fitzjames' in 1858.

The ones I am trying to find are -

(in or before 1848) - Constantine C. McCusker, born about 1823

(in or before 1848) - Ellen Galbraith, born about 1830

( In or before 1861) - James Miller (maybe with wife Mary) ??

Most likely they all came in to Sydney, but it is also possible that they arrived in Moreton Bay, and travelled overland to the Armidale/Uralla areas where they settled.   I have even checked Port Phillip arrivals, to no avail.

Hoping that somebody can help me, please ??
Many thanks in advance,
Cheers,
Ally

Hi Ally

Well I had a quick look at the indexes but no luck I'm afraid!

I did find a Catherine McCusker who arrived on the Digby in 1849.

Perhaps someone else can be of more help - sorry.

Good luck!
Cheers

Hi Ally,

I found this MILLER family arriving in Morton BAy,Qld 1855
on the "TRURO"
Immigration reels 2137 or 2472

MILLER  James aged 46yrs
             Mary  aged 36yrs
             Ellen  aged 13yrs
             Sarah aged 13yrs
             Jane   aged 10yrs
On the same ship two sisters are also listed.
Carherine MILLER aged 16yrs
Mary MILLER aged 18yrs
Whether they are of the same family but different cabin is not known. But, I suspect they belong to James & Mary.

Ellen GALBRAITH married Constantine C {Cornelius ?} McCUSKER at Church of England, Scone, NSW 1848.
Cert ref # V1848514 33B.

There are nine children listed as being born to a couple with these names.
They had at least four others, all sons.
I have found their death dates.

I think if you want more you better get in touch via personal message.
There's a bit to much for a post.

Cheers
Geoff

To Geoff & Janet B, and everybody else who helped me with various queries which I posted on Rootschat in February, 05.   I got sidetracked - big time - and forgot about Rootschat.  I apologise for not replying - your help is very much appreciated.

Hello Ally,
I saw your posting dated back in 2005. I have Galbraith/Jamieson ancestors who were in Armidale NSW in the 1840's. I haven't been able to located how or when they came to Australia from Scotland. My ancestor's name was Alexander Galbraith bn 1825 Kilmarnock Scotland. His parents were James Galbraith & Janet Jamieson.
I was wondering if you knew the names of Ellen GAlbraith's parents ?

I look forward to your reply.
Regards,

lyn.
