I'm not sure if this will help here or not.

I've researched a line of Marshall's in North Newbald and I have an Ann Marshall that married a William Medd.  Ann Marshall-Medd had a brother William Marshall born about 1799 most likely in North Newbald, Ann and William's parents were John Marshall and Elizabeth Stephenson.  I do not have a marriage listed for William Marshall at this time, but at least one of William and Ann Medd's sons is in North Cave in 1851 and 1861.  Could this be your father-in-law William Marshall who was 82 in 1881?  Its been awhile since I worked on this particular line of Marshalls but if this sounds like it may be the families you're looking for I'd be happy to see if I can help. I recall the Medd tree was a bit confusing and I didn't pursue it for long, but I should still have my notes.
