Lellylou - I went to a funeral in December, a 92 year old aunt, sadly I hadn't kept in touch with her in recent years.  However, I met up with a cousin I last saw about 45 years ago and we promised to make an effort to keep in touch - as you do!  I met her on Tuesday and we spent 3 hours trying to fill in the gaps.  The years fell away and I am now in the process of helping her with her dad's family tree.

Good luck with your family "reunion", albeit at a funeral.

Tilly

Simply logging on to RootsChat on a daily basis gives me a lift.  Looking at the photographs and the amazing work which the "experts" on them is great fun.  Sometimes I can even contribute to the subject!
Is RootsChat of help to me? - "You betcha'!

In the present economic climate I fear it is inevitable that extensive cuts will be made to both local and national archive services, at least in the UK. Therefore it is likely that we shall all find Rootschat to be of ever increasing use to us during the duration of the cuts, and probably for some time afterwards.

I have already had some outstanding assistance and broken through two previous brick walls.  As an "outsider" looking into English genealogy, I struggle with knowing where some of the towns in England are and how close or far they are from each other.  I am also still working to learn the English resources, so the guidance and advice I have gotten are invaluable.  Finally, the pound is a larger chunk out of my pocket than I would like, so reducing the amount of things (or at least focusing on critical items) I need to purchase in order to learn more about my family has helped greatly.  Thank you!

I encountered my brtickwall on the first day of my research in 1996. I still have it even though I joined Rootschat in 2008 and the posters on here have managed to knock a few bricks out of it.

Yet again some wonderful assistance - even if it is just (!) confirming or not what one has or not!
It really surprises me just how obliging some people are; that's a nice experience.
Thanks Rootschat.

It most certainly has been.  Without the help and direction of other Rootschatters I would still have more brickwalls than I currently have.

Absolutely resounding yes

When I started my family search on my side I had information that turned out to be like a "paper chase". Many false trails and falsehoods.
For my partner's side I had two names! Some vague information of locations and then nothing else.
For both searches I have found help here and overall been quite successful.
I really need now to catalogue everything more efficiently and write out a series of questions to keep on going!

And probably where this site has been most useful is in diverting me when I hit a stumbling block and am side tracked. Just looking at others' problems/suggestions/queries and finding something of use for them, and from them, can get you right back on track!
