Wendy,
Can't find anything on Alexander Lennox other than the marriage which you already have. However Margaret Hedley was born on 4 May 1875 to David Hedley and Isabella Hodgin who were married on 7 Apr 1863 in Berry St. Presbyterian Church, Shankill, Belfast. Other children were
31 Jan 1864  William James Hedley
20 Nov 1865David
16 Jun 1868 Isabella Hodin (sic) Hedley
2 Jan   1871 John Hedley
4 May 1875  Margaret Hedley
18 Jan 1878 Elizabeth
17 Mar 1880 Anna.

Good Morning Kingskerswell,

Thankyou for your response....the Margaret you mention, b 4 May 1875 is a "cousin" to the Margaret who married Alexander Lennox...Believe it or not, pretty well every "Hedley" family has a Margaret....

I believe the Margaret Hedley Lennox I'm looking for is the daughter of Robert Henry Hedley, aka "Harry"(shipwright) and Jessica Alexandria Cumming...it appears she may have been born in England, Baron in Furness(according to the 1911 census)...I question this??? But due to her father's occupation may be the case (need to confirm tho)

However, I know this is the family in question, as I have a birthday book which belonged to my Grt Grt Aunt (also Margaret Hedley but fortunately she was born to a sister so has a different Surname, being Close) the Lennox children are listed in the book which dates 1891-1941...as well,  it seems that the "Family" were not to thrilled with "mixed" marriages....I can confirm this fact through a partial family tree produced in the 1800's, which has stillborn babies listed, but parties who chose to marry outside their faith are not... (I'm Canadian..so this in itself astounds me, even though I have a firm understanding of religious issues in Northern Ireland)

Again, thankyou for your effort.

All the Best

Hi,

I see you have the families of Close, Gardner, smyth and Morrison.

All these names I seek.

They are all linked to me by McGrogans, Monaghans, McIlvennys and other names.  All from Belfast and Co ANtrim areas and maybe Co Derry.

I'm seeking information on
Mc Grogan-James b. 1881 -30-Male Mc Grogan-Isabella-34-Female Mc Grogan-Margaret-4-Female Mc Grogan-James-3-Male Mc Grogan-Robert-0-Male Close-Robert-35-Male bro in law 1911 at 3.1 Lancaster Street Belfast

John McGrogan wed Catherine Gardner kids Mary McGrgon b. 1867.
I think the above had other children including twins.
John b.1867 and possible Henry and Neal.

I have a Margaret Smyth whose father was Adam Smyth from Co Antrim.
Margaret married in Belfast to Robert Monaghan.

Any information would be great.

Other names I seek are McKenna, Parker, Duff, Campbell and more.

Laura

Laura,
I can find the marriage of John McGrogan to Catherine Gardiner in Glenwhirry Presbyterian church in 1863. Doing a parent search on the IGI lists the the following children but the mother's name is spelled GARDNER.
James 10 Oct 1865 Glenwhirry
Mary 3 Nov 1867 Antrim
Rose 17 Oct 1869 Armagh
Female 29 Oct 1872 Ireland
Margaret 21 Sept 1874 Glenwhirry.

Hi,

Thanks for the infomration but I see they were Presbytarians and my McGrogans/Close were RC unless they changed their religion but I doubt it.

I have also came across this link for Close/McCartney lines.

Laura,
I would not reject the findings out of hand. At that time mixed marriages may not have been accepted with joy but they were fairly common. The tradition was that the couple got married in the bride's church and thereafter any boys followed the father's religion and any girls followed the mother's. Remember this was well before the Papal decree, Ne Temere.
