Manchester Kids
« on: Friday 20 February 09 10:29 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

My Grandparents left me a load of old photographs. Some of them date back to the early 1900's. They would not have kept all these photos if they weren't relatives.
On the back of posh looking kids photo it says "From your loving little nephew, Willie". The reverse of the other photo is blank.
Here's a few surnames to play around with: Fulham, Stafford, Maudsley & Bennett.
Thanks for your time.
                                         Cheers,
                                                        Terry.

Hi Terry
Whose the little boy on your profile? Put the eyes from the litlle boy on the bottom picture on the other boy & he would look like the boy on your profile.

Hi Walshy,

Thank you for you're email.
I'm in the dark as much as you are! I've got this pile of old photographs that mean nothing to me! To my Grandparents, they must have meant something! If my Father was still around he'd be able to put names to faces. The guys on this site must be getting a bit fed up with me. I've got these 100 year photos and I haven't a clue as to who these people are! Just plod on I guess!
Thanks for your time & interest,
                                                    Cheers,
                                                                      Terry.

Hi Terry

Nothing really hekpful, but just a thought, are there any of these photo's with extra clues, such as more than one person, more than one generation, identifiable backgrounds, or people in uniform?

Another more promising type might be bmd's - couplkes with new babies, wedding photo's or evn funerals or ladies in mourning?

Just an ide!

It must still be a fascinating collection to have!

Best wishes

Hi Emms,

Thank you for the email. I wouldn't call it fascinating. More like frustrating. Some of the photographs are over 100 years old. Ask me who is this person or that person is, well, I haven't a clue! This photo could be my grandfathers sister, Mary, but I can't be sure.
Thank you for your time & interest.
                                                          Cheers,

Hi Terry

You never know!  On Rootschat anything can happen!

Even in the days before Rootschat, when there weren't as many replies to boards - like a reply after months if you were lucky, I got in contact with dis tant cousins in Australia and they had photo's of my grandmother, great aunts and great great aunts and I was able to tell them who the photo's were of.

We had photo's of my cousins' grandfather and I'd an idea from uniform and the inscription, and a very long record trawl but wasn't sure. I'd narrowed it down to two men of the same name.  They were able to tell me.

I've lost touch now, but I'd love to know they were okay.  They helped me loads.  That's the only thing with email.  If you're not in touch often, and emails change, that's it.

Anyway, Rootschat works much faster, so you never know!

By the way, do you know if Portrush was where they lived, or relatives?  Have you tried this picture together with the names you have on their local Irish board?

Good luck anyway!

Best wishes

Hi Emms,

Thank you for your email. All I know for certain is that my Great Grandmother,
Annie Wylie, was from Portstewart, which quite near to Portrush. Also, that she
born around 1861.
Thank you for your time & interest.

                            Cheers,
                                         Terry.

Now it's payback time! I'm into photograph restoration, and I'm enjoying it!
