I have been chatting with one of my Hartley cousins and she thinks Charles was a sail-maker who turned to shoe-making once he settled in Okains Bay. She also believes he came from Blackpool or nearby. Her Uncle Jack Hartley (1924-2012) wrote some family history down some years ago and she will try to find it.
