Did the Feakins originally come from England?

I ask because I have been to one of the local schools here to look at the school register and photos, and copy:) thinking that may be the Taranaki Feakins are all related and on the school record there is a Joan and Desmond Feakin, parent/guardian Claude Feakin. Seems they went  to England in the 1920's

Are these Feakins part of jacob and Charlotte?

Regards

Hi Lil,
Yes they came out from Lenham Kent on the Helen Denny in 1875, and settled in the Taranaki area. A son Horace later moved to the Waikato and is buried in Cambridge.
I have had contact with some descendants including TedD.
No-one has yet been able to identify exactly where Charlotte and Jacob where buried at Bell Block.:-)

Ted mentioned that he is compiling his information to share and I offered to chase up the information that I found on NZSG to help with this. There are only 67 Feakins listed. The school that my son attends is the same school that Joan and Desmond attended and the office lady is lovely. She helped me sort through information. I have one class photo taken 1925, no names but is about the right age for Joan's attendance.
The other photos are Jubilee photos 1924 -1933 x2.
When I am finished I'm going to post all these to Ted. If you would like me to post these photo's and registers to you, please PM me your address. Most of them are A3 sizing better to mail than scan.

Sadly you probably wont be able to pinpoint the exact location of Charlotte and Jacob, no headstones for them and speaking with Waitara branch, who have the details , no one can say exactly where the plots are.

I found  at the Library these marriage details

Methodist Marriage Record Taranaki

Amy Feakins married John James Gilbert, witnesses Annie Betts, Edward Ellery Gilbert, William Henry Roberts? or Rogers.

Charlotte Feakins married John Rogers, witnesses Mary Jane Rogers, William Rogers.

Ellen Mrytle Feakins married John Clayton Rowe, witnessess, Ivy and Albert Feakins.

Hi there the Feakins searchers
It has taken a number of years to sort out the Feakins arrival dates.
John and William came from England to Wellington in 1874 on the "Waikato" and from there to New Plymouth on the Gov't steamer ''Luna". The rest of the family came out to Napier in 1875 on the "Helen Denny" and from Napier to New Plymouth on the "Rangatira" the passenger list of the Helen Denny has Jacob and Charlotte and their daughter Charlotte and Horace and Amy listed separately in the single men's and women's accommodation. James Friend and Mary A Friend and their son John aged 2 are shown as a separate family with William Payne, Catherine Payne with their children Eliza, James W, George, and Amy in another family group. There have been various reports of them all coming together in 1874 and just the Feakins coming in 1875. The information we have now about the Waikato and the Helen Denny is correct as it is well documented.

As to the burial sites of Jacob and Charlotte, I have their death certificates and they are both listed as buried in Bell Block Cemetery. They are identically worded and I would think that they are buried in the same cemetery. I think that this is the cemetery at the corner of Mangati Road which now has a new church on it The Rogers who were the parents of Mary Ann, wife of Horace Feakins are also buried in the corner of the same cemetery as are many others of their family.

Does anyone have the complete list of those buried in that cemetery or a plan of the original layout of that cemetery. I think that this is where we should start and make a list of all those buried there instead of just doing one family.

To search you need to enter a surname, I have't discovered a way yet for just Bell Block burials

The Methodist archives should have a complete list of those buried in their cemetery but I have not followed it up.

Someone should have the burial records from the original Church
