Hi Lil,

This morning I received this :-

The grave site is in Lepperton and was there when I last went probably 30 years ago.

As the Death Certificate says Bell Block I am assuming that it comes under the Lepperton district.

Oh! that puts a different light on the situation, best I be finding the Lepperton Cemetery then. However NPDC does state Jacob and clan are on Managati Road, which is definitely Bell Block, possibly a mistake??  But! Before we discount anything, let me sort out the Lepperton inquiry first. ;D I was wondering also, would the district boundaries have moved since the early 1900? Cemetery 1st and if I can't find anything I'll inquire about the boundaries :)

Thanks Lucy :)

Hi Mackiwi

Lepperton Cemetery isn't administered by the NPDC and at that stage the person I spoke with isn't sure where it is in Lepperton. I did find its location on this site http://fhr.kiwicelts.com/Cemeteries/NZ_Cemetery_List.php and with the help of Google maps ;D I know how to get to it. Give me this week to get there and hunt around. :)

lil

Also this mentions Jacob from Lepperton http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&cl=search&d=TH19071207.2.4&srpos=1&e=-------10-PubMetaTH-1----0jacob+feakins++-all

But to be confusing http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&cl=search&d=TH19020716.2.21.1&srpos=2&e=-------10-PubMetaTH-1----0jacob+feakins++-all says he's buried at the Methodist Cemetery in Bell Block. St Lukes is Anglican

It's possible St Marks used to be where the New St Lukes is, Mangati Road cemetery. I'm going to have further investigate. Interestingly in the phone book, NO: 2 Managati road is Bell Block and Lepperton Co-Operating Parish.

Ok mystery solved, I spoke to the lady from the parish.

St Lukes /Anglican is 2 Mangati Road and ST Marks/ Methodist is Richmond Road Lepperton but they are a co-operative with the Presbyterain Church as well. Which is why there is a reference to St Marks being at Managati Road, that must be their head quarters ;D

We could possibly assume all Feakins are at Lepperton, I hope so ;D

Hi  :-)

I live in New Plymouth too - pretty much right up against Te Henui and Awanui cemeteries.  I'll be sure to wave to the Feakins next time I'm walking past!

I seem to remember when the new Co-operating church was built in Bell Block, there was something in the paper about the difficulties of negotiating building work around surprise unmarked graves.

You've got me itching to run off to Lepperton and have a look around!  Can't manage it this weekend sadly.

Hi Mackiwi

At Lepperton Cemetery today I did find a couple of Feakins ;D However not for Jacob, Charlotte, John or Horace :( Although there were a couple of headstones that were unreadable, they weren't anywhere near William and Ellen's grave.

In Loving Memory Of Ellen A Feakins died 1st Sept 1924 aged 58 and William Feakins died 18 Aug 1943 aged 90yrs. I have photos so if you'd like to Pm your email addy, I can send them on.

Ellen A Neill marriage 1886 http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ancestorsearchresults.asp?standardize=N&last_name=Feakins

I looked on the NPDC cemetery site and didn't see a William or Ellen A Feakins so I went g**gling for William, was sure he was connected

The IGI list mrs Ellen Feakins b 1852 nz and marraige on 18 Aug 1943 to William, the date is actually his death date. If you click on family next to Williams name you'll see that they had 10 children but only 3 named. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ancestorsearchresults.asp?standardize=N&last_name=Feakins

I have just been re-reading back over the post, you have mention of William as a child of Jacobs and Charlotte's and I see also althea had already found the location for Jacob on Cross Street in Lepperton. I need to read things thoroughly, don't I ;D It my save me some work in the future :)

Hi to Lil & Taonga,

The newspaper article re surprise unmarked graves may be the answer, I wonder what the outcome was. Would they have moved them or built further away, surely they wouldn't have built over them.
Perhaps the Co-operating Church may have something in their records.
My guess is that any Feakins found in the area are descendants of Jacob & Charlotte. I have also found some in the Palmerston North area.
