Taranaki Burial search
« on: Thursday 19 February 09 21:45 GMT (UK) »
3 x Great Grandmother Charlotte Feakins died 1907 at Stratford.
Newspaper says she was transported by train for Burial.
We assume she was to be buried with her husband Jacob Feakins at Bell Block Cemetery, but have not been able to find her details only his.
Is there anyone who could do a search for me?

Hi

What is it, that you want a search done for ??

Perhaps you need to check firstly with the New Plymouth District Council as to whether they have a record for Charlotte's burial ?   It is always possible that it might just be missing from the "online cemetery records database".

[I notice that the (online) record for Jacob (d. 1902) and 2 other "Feakins" also buried at Bell Block Cemetery, state that their burial locations within the cemetery, are not known. ?]

Hi,

I have tried New Plymouth Distric Council, but they were only unable to help re Charlotte.
I had already found their online information and hoped that they had further information not yet included there. Bell Block is administered by the Combined Churches,(is there an email address for them ?)
I am looking for her plot number etc.
Are there any other Cemeteries or Councils in the area that may have the information ?

Hi Althea,

The school records sound interesting as they lived at Lepperton until Jacob died in 1902, then Charlotte went to stay with her daughter in Stratford until her death in 1907.
Jacob must have been a guardian to one of their grandchilren.
Do you have any further details?
Newspaper says she was transported by train from Stratford for Burial but does not specify where to.

Hi

Doesn't that newspaper article advise mourners "to await the train from Stratford ....   at the Bell Block (railway) station"  ???

That seems to be suggestive that the funeral/burial was to take place .... at least in the vicinity of Bell Block.

Hi MacKiwi

Did the New Plymouth DC give you that info about "Bell Block being administered by the Combined Churches"   ???

I did a bit of "googling" but couldn't find any sort of address
or reference for the administrators of the cemetery.

Did Jacob have a headstone   ?

Perhaps it's worth looking at the cemetery fiche, to see if there's anything  ?

[I guess that you haven't got the death cert. for Charlotte ?]
