Many thanks for all your replies. My Dad worked at Thornes toffee, it was in the centre of Leeds next to the Red/West Yorkshire Bus Station, I remember it as a child with the figures on top of the building, we have lots of battered old toffee tins knocking around the house, I think it was knocked down and replaced by a NCP car park, haven't been around that area of Leeds for years, just wondering if there was any photos of it in existence, the toffee factory, not the car park

Most of the references to Wortley refer back to the 1930's-50's when my late Mum was growing up. I know she said shortly before being evacuated to Lincs in WW2 that a bomb went off at the bottom of her road and there was a crater from one side to the other, not sure if this refers to Wortley Lane. Her cousin Iris had all the family photos I saw them about 25 years ago, and among them was a photo of my Granddad Walter and his book shop at 39 Wortley Lane, I've not heard from Iris from over 20 years and as she was elderly I assume she must have died and with no family too leave anything too the photos probably ended up in the bin or some Leeds Antiques shop, as usually happens
Never mind I'll check out the websites if there are any photos/illustrations of the same streets, it doesn't matter about being the right house number at least it will give me an insight into how it used to be.
