BARTLETT of Closworth
« on: Wednesday 18 February 09 23:46 GMT (UK) »
Searching for the family of James born c1786 and his wife Ann (nee Dollimount born c1783) and children Benjamin 1806-1827; John born after 1807 d 1810; Charlotte 1809-1832; Sarah 1811-1887; Mary 1814-1883; Elizabeth 1818-1885; Seth 1819-1888; and Solomon c1822-1826.
James died in 1846 in Closworth and Ann in 1853 in Closworth. She gives her birthplace as Hardington in the 1851 census. I have no info on James' origins and cannot find any registers for Closworth.

I would like to trace the origins of James and Ann. Can anyone help?

Hi Kells,

The marriage was in Closworth 8 Oct 1805 witnesses Ann Highmore and John Mandfield.

Burials listed at Closworth

James BARTLETT 15 Apr 1846 aged 60
Ann BARTLETT 10 Apr 1853 aged 70

There is a Headstone to the family in Closworth

James BARTLETT Husband of Ann (Nanny). Father of Benjamin, Charlotte, Sarah, Mary, Bethia, Seth and Maria. Charlotte, Sarah, Mary and Bethia were buried elsewhere

Ann BARTLETT (Nanny) Wife of James. Mother of Benjamin, Charlotte, Sarah, Mary, Bethia, Seth and Maria. Charlotte, Sarah, Mary and Bethia were buried elsewhere

Benjamin 7 Dec 1828 aged 21 son of James and Ann (Nanny) Burial says 7 Dec 1827 so mistranscription somewhere
Maria 19 Mar 1878 aged 61 Daughter of James and Ann (Nanny)
Seth 6 Oct 1888 aged 60 Son of James and Ann (Nanny)
Bethia 1885 aged 67 Daughter of James and Ann (Nanny)
Charlotte 1832 aged 23 Daughter of James and Ann (Nanny)
Mary 1883 aged 70 Daughter of James and Ann (Nanny)
Sarah 1887 aged 76 Daughter of James and Ann (Nanny)

I do not see any burial record for Solomon

There is a John 28 May 1810 but no age is given (Also a John 17 Aug 1817 aged 18 months)

There are certainly plenty of Bartletts buried in Closworth and plenty of Dollimounts and variants buried in Hardington, but alas no luck with baptisms

Could be of Interest that there was a Rev Nathaniel BARTLETT at Closworth - he was christened 12.7.1761 in East Coker. (Son of Reverend Nathaniel Bartlett and Susanna) )He married Henrietta Harbin 13.10.1808 in Closworth. They were buried in Closworth, don't know if there was a connection. Barlett seems to be very common in the area.

Older Bartletts buried at Closworth

Joseph aged 71 buried 21 Nov 1833. Most of the earlier ones do not list ages. There is a Nathaniel in 1790 possibly the Rev's father but it doesn't give a age. A Benjamin in 1782 (curious since James had a son Benjamin) A John in 1815 aged 86 and a Miriam in 1821 aged 72, also Edward 1820 aged 56.

Hope someone can help with baptisms

Cheers Kris  :)

Thanks so much Kris!

I only just joined this today and what an incredible response! That is so much info, where do you get it all! That helps me greatly as the Closworth records are not online. Benjamin born 1806 is my ancestor, he died aged 21 I have a date of 1827 here) shortly after his marriage to Judith Childs in 1825 in Melbury Osmond Dorset. They had one son George born 1827 (cannot find a record for that either!). Although Ben seems to young, we worked back to Benjamin as a father as we knew Judith was the mother. Records can be very tricky!

I'd love to see the gravestone.

Hopefully someone out there has some Closworth baptisms/marriages!

Thanks again,

Kelly  :)

I am researching the Bartletts of Closworth - James Paul Bartlett is my husband's Great Grandfather and we too would like to know if his father is Solomon Bartlett and more about the family.
I see that krisesjoint is also researching the same family so I would be glad to get in touch with either (or both) of you to see where we all connect.

Hi Kelly and Anne,

Lovely you have made a connection. A Big Welcome to RootsChat Anne.  ;D ;D

I am not connected to the family Anne. I just helped by looking up some information for Kelly.

The PM problem is because Anne is a new member the PM facility has not opened to her yet. Anne if you just reply here a couple of times, Kelly will then be able to pass on her email address to you privately. We do not allow email addresses to be posted publicly.

All the best...........Kris  :)
