Hi All
Need some advice please. If someone was baptizeds a Protestant and then wanted to marry a Catholic would they have to be bapizeds a Catholic  before they could marry. Also  at the age of 27 would thay have to give their parent's name and address.

I might be wrong but my Aunt had to convert to Catholicism when she married my Uncle. I dont know if that involved a baptism though.

I was hoping that  she would have had  to be re baptized that way I could have found out more information about her as it would have been in the same church that she got married in.

If she converted to Catholicism, she would have had to have been part of a service which may have taken place in the church you mentioned? It's like a confirmation service and would have been listed in the church's records if that helps?

Hi Lisa Thank you for that I think I will write to the church and see if they can help as I know the church and the date of the wedding I have tried writing to a few church's about her Baptizm but never get a reply.

I can't add much to what Lisa told you already.

The key question here is 'where did they get married?'

If they got married in a Catholic Church, the non-Catholic would have to give an undertaking that all the children of the marriage would be brought up as Catholic. Although, as far as I know it was not mandatory for a non-Catholic to convert to Catholicism, it appears that most of them did.

If they got married in a non-Catholic Church there was no declaration and no need to convert.

Thank you for your reply it was the  Catholic Church of Kilnahue Gorey Wexford my Grandmother was a Protestant and she changed her religon to marry my Grandfather. the children were all Catholic's.
