The Freeing of Willington Toll Bridge 1898: Has anyone got a copy of the book?

Hi everyone,

I am in search of a booklet produced to commemorate the freeing of the Toll bridge between Willington and Repton in Derbyshire. The freeing took place in 1898 and the book was produced to commemorate the centenary.

My interest in this is that fact that my husband's great great Grandfather lived with his family at the Tollhouse at the time of the freeing and for many years after, in fact his great great grandmother lived there until the 1950's when the house had to be demolished after a vehicle hit the house.

The book contains lots of pictures of the freeing ceremony and we are trying to see if we can spot him. I have already tried local libraries but with no luck. Can anyone help please?

This website may have the pamphlet you are looking for.  It's the Repton Village website and their publications list mentions the Bridge and says there are photos of the freeing ceremony.

Hi mel,
Have you asked your library if they could get it for you on inter-library loan?   YOu may have to wait for a couple of weeks but they can often russle up a book from somewhere such as a university library and get you the use of it for a couple of weeks.
One thing to ask at the outset is are there any charges related to this.  Usually the answer is no, unless someone decides to get adventurous and get it from an overseas library.
Worth asking.
