Castle Park House, Bullock Dun Laoghaire
« on: Wednesday 18 February 09 08:41 GMT (UK) »
Hi Can anyone tell me about Castle Park house in Bullock, Dalkey Dun Laoghaire.

I found the address on a marriage cert in 1866. Was it a house belonging to a Land owner or maybe some kind or workhouse or industial school.
Any info will help in finding out why my GG Grandmother & her Aunt were living in Dublin when they were born in Wexford

Thanks Lisa

Dalkey is south of Dun Laoghaire, which is in Co. Dublin.

On an old 1967 map I have, there is a Bullock Harbour, and Castle Park, just north of Dalkey town centre. There are buildings in the park.

there's a lot about Castle Park in Peter Pearson's book "Between the Mountains and the Sea" ..

"in 1867....Castle Park, formerly Castle Perrin, lands included the quarries behind Bullock Harbour ... built 1820s? .. 1830 owned by Alderman Arthur Perrin, .. 1851 John Richards .. 1870ish Hon James O'brien ...".

It became a school in 1904 - was still standing when the book was published 1998. There's a photo of schoolboys on the steps in the book.

from the Dalkey section of Slaters Commercial Directory of 1870 - which includes the Bullock Harbour area.

Honourable James O'Brien, (second justice court of Queen's
Bench), Castle Park and 92 Stephens Green South, Dublin

there also streets named - Castle St, Castle Park Rd & Castle place, in Bullock.

dont see any specific mention of Castle Park House yet...

I grew up in Dalkey, and spent many summer days at Bulloch Harbour, from where one could see the playing fields of Castle Park School, which was, and still is, located in Castle Park House.  At that time it was a boy's residential prep school; it is now a co-ed, fee-paying junior school. for local children.

Details of its history can be found at
