Sorry should have said St. Lurach's Maghera, Co. Derry.
Both John and Henry are listed on the 1831 census as farming in Mullagh townland just south east of Maghera, near the friary. 
It might be helpful to know that Henry is listed on the burial record as being from Tullyheron, to the west of Maghera.

I think that John McElree/McIlree buried at ST. Lurach's born 1778?  may have a son buried with him whose name was Matthew.  Sometimes with the naming patterns they were named after uncles depending upon the birth order?

I have just read your message today and I am wondering too?

I have a Great Grandfather called Patrick McElwee married to Anne Gallagher in 1861 in Derry.

I am trying to trace his birthplace and at the moment it looks like I may have found him in 1838 in Lavey Parish, Co. Derry.

I have to have this verified yet and have written to the PP at the Catholic Church in Newtowncunningham.

This may not mean anything to you but thought that I would run it past you.

Patrick's Son, James was my Grandfather.
