GONINNAN/MOYLE/JEWELL/THOMAS/MARTHA/PLEMMIN/DOWAR
« on: Tuesday 17 February 09 18:07 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Looking for any family connection to the above names. Mostly from the Helston area of Cornwall. I know the families as such, spread out into Breage and Wendron and the surrounding area. My main interest is Edward Goninnan and Sophia Moyle who finished up living in Rotherham, Yorkshire. Edward's occupation was a currier so suspect this was the reason for the family moving up North.

The other names I am also interested in furthering as they are part of the Goninnan and Moyle line. If any of the names ring a bell with you, I would love to hear from you.

Kind regards  :)

Hi Lil_Fox,

Be sure to check our Surname Interests Table for Connections and while you are there make sure to add your own. You can access the Surname Interest Table from the bottom of any RootsChat page

Lil Fox--

One of my relatives married into a Moyle family in Cornwall.  I don't have Sophia in my family tree, but a quick check at Ancestry.com on the One World Tree shows Sophia Moyle md 23 Jan 1843 in Helston to Edward Goninan, born 16 Nov 1817 in Helston.  The family shows five children.

I found what appears to be Edward and Sophia in the 1851 Cornwall Census and the 1861 Woverhampton, Staffordshire Census.  I can look further if this would help you.

Hi Matilda

The Goninnan line I have is already established and I have it coming forward from Edward and Sophia as well as backwards. So thank you for your offer of help with the census. I am interested in furthering the names that come into the Goninnan line which are listed above and Moyle as you know is one of them. I would love to know which line your Moyle connection comes in.

The parents I have for Sophia are Stephen Moyle abt. 1792 and Eleanor Jewell abt.1791 Wendron, Cornwall. Sophia had three siblings, Edward, Julia and Eliza. Also the parents of Stephen Moyle are Edward Moyle and Elizabeth Dowar. I don't know if any of these names ring a bell with your Moyle connection.

Thanks again for the offer of help, much appreciated.

Lil :)

I spent some time on the Moyles in Wendron a few months ago to see if there was a connection, but as far as I can tell, there isn't one.  My relative, Julia Hornblower, married John Moyle of Chacewater in 1784.  The children settled in Chacewater or Helston.

Sorry I couldn't be of help to you.

Hi Matilda

I will have a check through the names you have given me here. My Goninnan line came from Helston and Breage.

I too have an interest in the Moyle name. A member of my family, Eliza Moyle (b. c1865) daughter of Thomas Moyle married a John Dunstan in 1885, also of Wendron. Some time before WW1 they moved to South Wales, to the village of Deri. She died there in 1912 and is buried in Pentwyn cemetery. I'd be curious to know if she might be linked to any members of your family?

Mike.

Hi Matilda,

Please contact me as I am a member of the Moyle Family. Julia Hornblower and John Moyle are on my family tree. I am Cornish, I live in Cornwall and I have reams of information.

Best wishes
