South Yorkshire Lunatic Asylum Wadsley, Ecclesfield

I believe that the ROBERT SALMONDS who is shown as being a "pauper patient" and a "lunatic" in the 1881 Census is my Robert SALMONS. Does anyone have access to this old institutions records and does anyone have any local info on where he might be buried. According to BMD register he died in the WORTLEY registration district in quarter ending March 1886.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sand
I have had a look on the website Sheffield Indexers and there is a link which may help your search. If you click on the 'institutions' tab once on the website, follow through to another tab which says 'hospitals', on that page at the top there is a posting for mental health history, the link is on there which is 'assylum index'.

Hi sand,
Lil_Fox has probably given you the best site I can think of with regard to asylums, but with regard to your other question try:
http://www.sheffieldindexers.com/
Some kind person gave me this site when I was trying to trace my ancestor, who died in the Sheffield Workshouse in 1891. They found the right cemetery for me - I then contacted the cemetery, and a very kind person (who was a member of the Friends of Burngreave Cemetery) helped me out by finding the grave.
Knowing that I lived quite a distance she sent me a photo by email! Some people are lovely!
Hope this helps.

Hi Sand,
I had a relly in S.Y. Asylum, or Middlewood Hospital, he died in 1900.
All the records including photo's were available at the
Sheffield Archives, 52 Shoreham Street Sheffield.
You can find it on the net.
Deno.

Lil_Fox,
Sorry, I should have read your post a bit more thoroughly - too many pots boiling!
Thanks for pointing out the institutions feature.
Brilliant site, isn't it!
