However he was already married and it is believed he was imprisoned for bigamy.

Can anyone tell me where I can find any records of this.

on www.freebmd.org.uk  their marriage..
DEC QTR 1919 in Bucklow.. Albert Edward Anderson to Sarah Buckley Ref No 8a 406
official cert of marriage...I would have thought if this marriage was bigamous it would be taken out of the register records as it was illegal....in my opinion it wasn`t bigamous...let me see if I can find out if bigamous records are deleted...allan ???

Records of bigamous marriages are not deleted, so there is nothing odd about finding it in the registers.

I have just been on another genealogy site and have been informed that bigamous records are NOT deleted ....but...if you request the certificate the GRO will NOT send you the cert, but they don`t give a reason why.....so presumably if you send for it and it is refused ,this may confirm if it was bigamous....hope this helps...allan ;)

Thank you all for your replies.

The grandaughter of Albert know from the family that he was sent to prison for marryimg in 1919 for  being already married.

Do not know any more details.

HI, I AM ALBERT EDWARD ANDERSON'S GRANDAUGHTER. HE MARRIED MY GRANDMOTHER (SARAH BUCKLEY) BIGAMOUSLY IN 1919 IN ALTRINCHAM, CHESHIRE. I HAVE A COPY OF THE MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE, IN WHICH ALBERT CLAIMS TO BE 27 WHEN, IN FACT, HE WAS 22. MY GRANDPARENTS MARRIED LEGITIMATELY IN 1942. I UNDERSTAND THAT MY GRANDAD SERVED TIME IN PRISON, BUT I AM NOT SURE WHEN OR FOR HOW LONG.
CAN I ASK WHY YOU ARE ASKING ABOUT ALBERT EDWARD ANDERSON?
I HAVE ALWAYS WONDERED IF ALBERT FATHERED ANY CHILDREN WITH HIS FIRST WIFE. BY PROCESS OF ELIMINATION, I THINK HIS FIRST WIFE COULD BE SARAH BANE AND THAT THEY MARRIED IN ST PANCRAS. I AM WAITING FOR THE MARRIAGE CERT TO CONFIRM.
I HAVE ALSO DISCOVERED THAT ALBERT LIED ABOUT HIS AGE WHEN HE JOINED THE RAILWAY IN 1911 - CLAIMING TO BE 16, WHEN HE WAS 14.
MY GRANDPARENTS HAD TWO CHILDREN, KATHLEEN (MY MUM) AND ALBERT, WHO WAS BORN IN 1920.
PLEASE GET BACK TO ME IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE INFO. THIS WAS A WELL KEPT FAMILY SECRET. MY MOTHER DID NOT KNOW ABOUT HER FATHER BEING A BIGAMIST UNTIL HE DIED IN 1978.

Hi Yvonne, Sue is my cousin! I was very surprised when I did a Google search and your post came up! I haven't made much headway yet, but I am keeping Sue in the loop. Once I get the first marriage certificate, it should make life a bit easier! Grandad would be turning in his grave if he knew he was on the worldwide web! Mind you, he might have enjoyed the notoriety :-)
Kind regards,
Debbie
