John Downie Mcdonald
« on: Tuesday 17 February 09 12:34 GMT (UK) »
Dear all
I'm trying to find any information about my GG grandfather's family he was born in 1868 in Edinburgh Midlothian and died in England ? when he married on the 26th April 1889 at Clydesbank Dumbarton to a Margaret Wallace (born 29th Nov 1866).  I don't seem to have had any luck in tracing John's parents or siblings.

                                       Thanks in anticipation Asgood

Hi Asgood,

Just a word of caution, the record on IGI for John Downie McDonald marrying Magaret Osborne Wallace is a submitted record by member after 1991, and it may not be correct. Have you been able to find record on Scotland Peoples website?

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

This is a paysite but only £6 for 30 credits and only 6 credits to search and download certificate.
Have you found the John McDonald in 1871 & 1881 census? Was he in Edinburgh or Dumbartonshire?

I will try and prove but if you have any confirmed info, can you post, will save duplication of effort, thanks.

Hi Asgood,

There is a record on SP for John Downie McDonald marrying a Margaret Wallace Hay in Old or West Kilpatrick/Dunbartonshire in 1889, ref 501/00 0009,. Once you register at site, will cost you £1.20 to download the certificate which will give both parents names etc.

Hi Tidybooks
Thanks so much for that information I will have to join that website and check on the Scottish records site.  Its so helpful that people give you information that is relevant to that area.  I have ancestors from all parts of the united Kingdom and find that there are good soles out there that are willing to point you in the right direction thanks again Asgood
