William Edwards of Longton, Staffs
« on: Tuesday 17 February 09 11:47 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Trying to locate the marriage details of a William Edwards born abt.1821 Longton, Staffs to a Sarah Unknown born abt. 1821 Staffs. This is the first marriage of William with known children to date are Enock Edwards 1837 Longton, Staffs and Benjamin Edwards 1838 Stoke on Trent.

Second marriage which is the line I descend from was that William married a Eliza Unknown born abt. 1825 Fenton, Staffs. Now for some reason William and Eliza moved up to Scotland as two of the children were born there and then the family finished up in Mexborough, Yorkshire. William is noted as being a potter/dealer in china so would presume that this is one of the reasons for the move. Also Mexborough I believe was a focal point in the pottery trade as I know Staffordshire certainly was.

William had a grandaughter called Lily who was my greatgrandmother she married Ralph Mawson.

I have looked at this and looked again but hoping a pair of fresh eyes might help point me in the right direction!!

Thank you and kind regards

Lil

I have found a William Edwards who in 1842 married a Sarah Cooper at Caverswall St Peter, Staffordshire Moorlands 12C/1/118.

Hope this helps  :)

Hi Lil,
Sorry I havnt been around but forgot password etc. since we last contacted each other I have found that William Edwards born 1853 in Scotland married an Elizabeth Shaw in 1873 at Doncaster, she was possibly born in 1856 in Doncaster. Dont know whether you already have this info, but Micks dad brought his dads birth certificate last week.
     Will try to keep up,
        Sheila x

Hi Sheila

Hope you are keeping well.

I have exactly the same as you, William Edwards marrying Elizabeth Shaw. My connection is through their daughter Lily who married my grtgrandfather Ralph Mawson. Have a lovely picture of Lily and Ralph and also of William and Elizabeth. If you do another post on here you will be able to pm me then i can forward you a genealogy report of what i have to date. I have Mexborough as place of birth for Elizabeth Shaw. Seems that William's father liked to move around alot looking at where all his siblings were born!!

Please keep in touch.

Lil :) xXx
